How to become an igneous rock

Bear is a bear. And Bear lives a quiet life in the forest. Bear has a friend. And its name is Binder.

Binder is, well, a Binder. It was dropped out of a school bus one sunny summer day. The kids were utterly tormenting poor Binder, so much that the driver pitied it and threw it outside to save Binder and put it out of its misery.

And there it was plopped off the side of the road, and Binder stayed there for who knows how long bearing with the rain and snowy days. One day, the wind was so strong that it blew Binder along and across the trees at an unfathomable speed until it landed on Bear's face!

That was when they first met.

And now they happily live together in Bear’s den.

One day, Bear was walking around trying his best to find any food he could find. But the thing is, he definitely wasn't the “brightest student”, which is what Binder would often say.

See, whatever he see’s, he eats. Meaning that, whenever he would sniff around and find something that would seem edible, he would try to eat. Whether it be sticks, or leaves or mud. Bear would have the appetite for that.

“You have the life expectancy of a Victorian child”, Binder often says. But that didn't stop Bear from eating though.

As Bear was sniffing around for some food, with sticks in his mouth, he stumbled upon a huge rock. It wasn’t just any rock, it was a talking sedimentary rock.

“Hey there!!”, the rock said. “Wanna be friends?”

Bear looked at the rock dumbfounded. A rock? Want to be friends with me??, he thought. He nodded immediately, agreeing to be his friend. Bear picked up the rock, put it on his head and ran like the wind to his den, where Binder was.

Nowadays, Binder wasn’t the static binder it once was. Over time, it was able to develop arms made from the paper that was clipped inside it. While it wasn’t much, Binder is able to move from place to place.

In fact, Binder was minding its own business, practicing to move from place to place within Bear’s den, when suddenly Bear barged into the den with a random rock on top of his head.

“Get that out of your head!”, Binder said. “You’ll crush your head with that!” Bear whined at the thought of his head being crushed, but before the panic sets in, the rock spoke first.

“Hey, hey, hey.” The rock started. “I come in peace! Promise!”

“Really now? How can you prove that?” Binder retorted.

“I just really need some help here!”

  “And what's that?”

“Please help me become an igneous rock!”, Rock shouted. “Please, I'll do anything!”

There was a silence in the room that unnerved the rock. However much to its confusion, Binder was flipping through pages of notes, finding how to become an igneous rock.

Stolen content alert: this content belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences.

“Alright”, Binder said casually. “We can help you become an igneous rock” Bear also grunted a grunt of approval, wanting to help his rock friend achieve his dream giving the best thumbs up he could!

“Oh my rocks, thank you so much!”, the rock said. “Now, take me to a lake!”

And thus, Bear, Binder and the rock headed towards a river, which led to a lake, so technically they were going to a lake. They journeyed from their den to the forest to the deserts and the pyramids finally making a stop to the Nile river.

What better place is there to become an igneous rock than a river leading to the ocean at a very hot place?

“We’re here.”, said Binder. Before getting to the river itself, they had to pass through a city first. A city full of humans at that. Binder was not very open to being near humans, especially the near-death bullying that happened prior to meeting Bear. While Binder was reluctant, Bear decided to step into the city not knowing what was going to happen. He has never been near humans at all, what could possibly happen?

A lot of things can happen. A woman passing by caught a glimpse of a huge brown bear with an equally huge rock on top of his body. As well as a binder, perched on top of the bear's head with little sentient paper arms that seem to be pointing in some direction.

She immediately shrieked. “B-b-b-b..”, she stammered. A guy, who was around the corner, looked at her sorry face and wondered what she saw.

“What is it?”, the man asked.

“BEAR!!!!”, she immediately grabbed the man's hand and ran away. More than anything humans were afraid of poor old Bear, who wanted nothing more than to lead the rock to a lake.

And because of that, Binder was more at ease, knowing that humans won’t do anything to it since they are all running away. However they did start to hurry. While they were walking around, taking in the sights, looking at the maps sprinkled around the city, a group of humans in black clothing seemed to be surrounding the trio. In fact, they were trying to catch them!

Binder was the first to notice and when it did, it already had a good idea of where the river was. It tapped Bear’s ear with its paper.

“Turn left, Bear!”. It said, Bear immediately understood the assignment. He sped up and went left. For the next few minutes the trio was navigating the huge city, passing through shops, trying not to hit any people that were in front and trying to run away from those black clothed people.

Eventually, the trio lost those black clothed people and went to rest for a while on a bench. And on that bench, they were able to see it, the Nile river! Just a few buildings over!

“It’s right there!”, Binder said. “I’ve only seen pictures but it looks magnificent!” Bear was also looking at lake two, his eyes sparkled looking at the river. Come to think of it, it has been a while since Bear has drank some water and all that running tuckered him out.

“Yes! This will be the place to become an amazing igneous rock!”

Now the main goal is to get to the Nile river. After just a short rest, they went running again, but even faster. From the elevated bench they were sitting at they jumped onto the roofs of the building, from one roof to another. Until finally, they arrived at the river.

Bear gruntled a happy grunt, taking rock off his back.

“Thank you, thank you, thank you so much guys!”, while the rock was static, it was certainly jumping for joy. “Well, this is goodbye then!”

Bear once again grunted, happy to assist a rock that needed a should to lean on.

“Yes, it is goodbye then.” Binder said. “I wish you luck in becoming the igneous rock you desire to be!” and with that Bear threw the rock into the Nile river.

Afterwards, Bear went to drink up on some water, while Binder waited and admired the river and the pyramids, looking through its notes to fact check on whether the information was right.

And after that, they started heading back to their den. Back to the forest, where they lived happily ever after.

  The end!

Authors note: Hello, if you made it this far tysm for reading! I found this story randomly from my middle school notes and was like why not recreate it again yk. Tbh i just wanted to start writing again and stuff, and i wanted to use this story to practice once again since its been a while since I made an actual story. It may be ugly writing but that’s alright. Lets normalize ugly writing once in a while tho not all the time lmao :))))
