Chapter 9: The Judges Fear

To the left of the Palace of Yama sat Judge Cui.

He wore a black gauze cap and red robes, holding the Book of Life and Death in his left hand and the Soul-Hooking Brush in his right. Although the dismantling of the front door had startled him, at this moment, as the green-armored freak passed his desk, professional instinct made him subconsciously shout:

  "Halt!"

  Slayer stopped.

Still carrying the heavy door of the Yama Palace, he turned around, his gaze behind the visor locking coldly onto Judge Cui.

Judge Cui felt like he was being stared at by a prehistoric beast, but he forced himself to remain calm. After all, he was a Judge, representing the laws of the Netherworld.

"Since you have entered the Palace of Senluo, you must be tried!" Judge Cui slammed his gavel (though the sound was a bit weak). "No matter which deity you are, as long as you bear the sin of killing, the Book of Life and Death holds your karma! State your name!"

Slayer didn't speak. He just stood there quietly.

Daoist Singularity wanted to rush up and smooth things over: "Old Cui! Don't have a death wish! This isn't someone you can judge!"

But Judge Cui had already opened the Book of Life and Death.

"Let me see your life..." Judge Cui hovered the Soul-Hooking Brush over the page, attempting to sense Slayer's soul fluctuations to retrieve his file.

  Vrrrrm—!

The moment the brush tip pointed at Slayer.

The originally calm Book of Life and Death suddenly began to flip pages frantically on its own.

  Flap-flap-flap-flap-flap!

The pages turned so fast they created afterimages, the wind generated messing up Judge Cui's beard.

"What... what is happening?" Judge Cui turned pale with fright. "Why are there so many records?!"

  Every page was slaughter.

  Every line was death.

But this wasn't the sin of killing innocents.

[Kill: Abyssal Lord x1. Sin Value: -10000 (Merit).]

[Kill: Baron of Hell x5. Sin Value: -5000.]

[Kill: Titan of Destruction x1. Sin Value: -100000.]

  [Kill... Kill... Kill...]

This Book of Life and Death, meant to record sins, had at this moment turned into an infinitely long "Record of Slaughter Merits"!

Moreover, as the pages turned, a terrifying aura of blood and malevolence spewed from the book.

That wasn't ordinary killing intent. It was the substantial "Will of Destruction" condensed after slaughtering demons across entire dimensions.

At this moment, Slayer took a step forward.

He didn't attack; he simply released his aura.

In Judge Cui's eyes, the man before him disappeared. Replacing him was a sea of corpses and blood.

Above that sea of blood stood a figure taller than King Yama, more terrifying than a Demon God, looking down at him with eyes that disdained all living things.

  "You want to judge me?"

  That gaze seemed to say:

"Even Hell itself dares not judge me. Who are you?"

  Clatter.

Judge Cui dropped the Soul-Hooking Brush.

That divine brush, known to "Judge Yin and Yang, Determine Life and Death," actually cracked a fine line the moment it hit the floor.

  It cracked from fear.

Artifact spirits are sentient. This brush sensed the terror of the existence before it—an absolute "Outlaw" beyond the jurisdiction of the Book of Life and Death.

The Book of Life and Death finally flipped to the last page, emitted a puff of green smoke, and stopped.

There was only one line of text, red as dripping blood, written in DOOM's signature gothic font:

[THE ONLY THING THEY FEAR IS HIM.]

Judge Cui collapsed in his chair, soaked in cold sweat.

"No... no such person found..." Judge Cui tremblingly picked up the cracked brush. "This person... is not within the Five Elements, has jumped out of the Three Realms... This official... this official cannot judge him..."

  Slayer withdrew his gaze.

The terrifying illusion of the blood sea vanished instantly. He returned to being the silent warrior carrying a door slab.

Without even glancing at the limp Judge, he turned and continued toward the rear door.

Daoist Singularity walked over, sympathetically patted Judge Cui's shoulder, and slapped a "Heat Dissipation Talisman" onto the Book of Life and Death.

"Old Cui, don't feel inferior." Singularity sighed. "Some people's files have the highest encryption level. Your system privileges aren't high enough; forced access will burn out your motherboard."

Judge Cui wiped his sweat, watching that retreating figure, and muttered to himself:

"This killing intent... this karma... King Yama, this isn't a human! This is clearly a living 'God of Slaughter'!"

  "Logic of the Strong."

Before the laws of the Underworld, ordinary ghosts need to defend themselves.

But for Slayer, his very existence is a justice that requires no trial.

Because all he kills are things that deserve to die.

"Next stop: Entrance to the Eighteen Layers of Hell." Singularity looked at the map on his tablet. "The real tough battle is about to begin."
