Chapter 6 – Oakflesh and Spells

The reading time passed in a quick fsh for Marcus due to the fact that he knew most of the things.

But he still understands the value of it. As he read, many more ideas came to his mind, and what he knew became more robust. It was some sort of a difference between knowing something and understanding.

The books were more detailed and comprehensive compared to the game, but the difference was not that much, at the very most, ten to fifteen times, not fifty to a hundred times like cities and crowds. This was great.

  “Now.”

"For the book, the skill book, I am looking for; I have to speak with Giraud.”

Marcus went to the side of Giraud, who was yawning as he was tired checking all the papers in front of him, and then said.

“I am looking for a book.”

  Giraud nodded.

“Tell me the name of it.”

  Marcus then said.

“It is about Alchemy, The Crown Jewel – Song of Alchemists.”

  Giraud nodded.

“Yes, I know it, but that is a valuable book.”

“If you want it, you need to pay five septims for it.”

Marcus thought for a moment and then nodded.

“Can I see it before purchasing it?"

  Giraud nodded.

“Of course.” He got up from his chair and went to the back for a moment before coming with the book.

Marcus focused on the book and noticed a magical feeling about it.

  “Yes.”

“This is a skill book, a book that increases the perk directly after reading."

“I suppose it would not be like in the game; just opening it would not be enough, but reading it would cause skills to increase.” Marcus thought.

Giraud pced the book on the table.

  “Here.”

  “Do not harm it.”

Marcus took the book and opened several pages, and then he felt it. Something about himself was increasing deep in his soul.

“This is the feeling of my level increasing.”

“If I am not wrong, if I finish this book, my potions would be stronger, and I also would have a more robust and powerful body in the sense of health if I choose, or more magical power if I choose to increase my magicka.”

“Just like in the game, just more realistic and feeling-based instead of gamified."

Marcus then paid the five gold septims and then smiled at the man.

  “Thank you.”

“I wonder if you have any spellbooks."

  Giraud, though.

“I have one alteration spell; I am not a spellcaster myself, but we do get some novice-level spells.”

“Now that I look at you...” Giraud eyed Marcus down for a moment.

“You do seem more of a mage," he then added.

“It is Oakflesh; I am sure you have heard it. When you cast it, it causes one's skin to be hardened for more than one to six hours, depending on the caster's power.”

  “Do you want it?"

Marcus nodded. Marcus knew that he did not want to wear armor or have a different kind of mindset than a modern earth human.

If he believed it would be best for him to focus on matters such as Illusion, Alteration, and other types of magic schools if he wants to go on.

He was not some sort of a battle mage and did not want to be a battle mage. If he can curse any enemy or stop them from existing with a thought, why would he need to hurl a fireball towards them?

  “How much?" Marcus asked.

  Giraud thought for a moment.

  “Hmmm.”

“You already bought something from me.”

“I suppose five septims for it is enough too.”

  Marcus thought.

“I would like to haggle with him, but the coins are not much of a problem, and I am in no situation to be capable of haggling with a Master Speech user like him...”

He then pced another five gold septims on the table, and then Giraud gave him the Oakfsh spell.

“With this, I at least have more protective power.”

“I do have to test it too.”

“In the game, it just increased armor rating, which blocked most of the incoming damage.”

"But here it may block low-level attacks outright.”

“I am not sure how it would work, but I have time to test them.”

After the purchase was complete, Marcus went back to the inn and then sat down at one of the corner tables while ordering a mead and then first started reading the alchemy book to have more improvement on his potions.

It was his lifeblood right now and easy to start. He believed he would be in Solitude for about a week before leaving for Winterhold.
