Chapter 15 - ‘Green Goblin Clan (Part 2).’

The archer led the trio down a well maintained and clear path. Its arms were completely tied up via Araneidas web, which made it impossible to move the arms even a little bit. Jack and Sallow walked basically right beside the archer, keeping their eyes on it, while Araneida moved from behind it – her eyes locked on the green goblin, ready to pounce on it, should it try anything.

“How much farther?” Jack asked, throwing his gaze over at Sallow. “Not that far anymore. While this path may have changed over time, it’s still recognisable enough for me to know where it leads.”

The archer looked away nervously, as Sallow glared at it. “Besides, this prick wouldn’t dare to try and mislead us, knowing what will happen.”

  Jack chuckled, looking away.

“You’re right there. But then again – you never know what kind of stupid ideas one may come up with.” He looked at the archer with a sinister grin, which sent shivers down the archer's spine. “Sometimes, there are those stupid enough to try and do something, even if they know they’ll die.”

The archer shed a cold sweat, while Sallow nodded in response to Jack's comment. Though the goblin archer was as silent as a shadow, in its mind, it was screaming with fear. The archer knew that its clan would detest it for leading these three individuals to their camp and not simply giving up its life, however at the same time, it didn’t nearly have enough pride or courage to stand until the end – even when its death was guaranteed.

These individuals — especially the human…

  They were true monsters.

They all moved down the path for a while, until eventually, a large, large camp came into view. There were giant stone walls with large, open gates in their center. On top of some watchtowers of the walls, were stationed goblin guards, all armed with bows. At the gate, there were a couple of heavily armed goblins, with heavy plate armour and spears.

It was clear this place was a lot more ‘developed’ than the Grey Goblin clan had been when Jack stumbled upon it. Jack smirked.

“Alright, let’s see whether or not we can get ourselves an audience with the king.” He stated, before fearlessly moving towards the front gates, which surprised Sallow for a second, before he exhaled and followed after Jack.

The Archer remained in place for a second, before Araneida pushed it forward, giving a glare that very clearly was demanding that the archer move. Without resistance, it caught up to Jack and Sallow, with Araneida following behind it. As they approached the front gates, the guards stationed there immediately began to mobilise.

“Intruders! All hands, prepare for—” Before they could finish the announcement, Jack dashed up to the guards at the gates, having morphed his legs into ostrich ones. “That’s just rude. We’re here to visit and you ring the alarm?”

The goblins quickly turned towards Jack, about to stab their spears through him, however Jack quickly dispatched the two, sending the guards flying into the camp with his bare hands. The archers on the towers began to mobilise, getting ready to fire — however, just like with the guards at the gates, they were struck before they could get the chance to do anything, with Araneida leaping up to them and beginning to tear through them with ease - her eyes shining red.

Despite being struck suddenly, one of the goblin guards that had been sent flying by Jack managed to ring a bell, which alerted the entire rest of the clan. Jack sighed. “Well, it seems like it’s time to go on a massacre.”

“Hold on my Lord, please do not kill these goblins.” Sallow quickly stopped Jack, before approaching him from behind, dragging the tied up archer behind him. Jack looked at Sallow confused.

  “And why shouldn’t I?”

  “...” Sallow remained silent.

It seemed like he didn't have a good reason – however, despite the non existent answer from Sallow, Jack understood completely why he didn’t want to kill these goblins. Jack sighed.

“Alright, I won’t kill them. I’ll do just enough damage that they can’t fight, but not anymore than that.” He then moved further into the camp, throwing a look at Sallow over his right shoulder. “...It’s good to have a good heart.”

Sallow looked at Jack a bit surprised, before the Tamer looked away and proceeded to easily break through the incoming reinforcements that had been summoned by the distress bell being rung – Jack, as promised, did just enough damage to knock the goblins down and ensure they don’t continue the fight, but no more than that.

Araneida leapt down next to Sallow, who looked at the spider and her blood stained fangs, before sighing. “Please try and refrain from killing them.”

The arachnid looked at Sallow with a displeased stare, however after a small exhale, seemed to gesture to the Goblin that she won’t kill anymore of them, before following after Jack. Sallow watched the two of them move away, while the Archer eyed the goblin.

“...Are you here to get revenge, Grey King?”

Sallow remained silent, before looking at the archer. “It’s none of your concern.” He stated, before following after Jack and Araneida, continuing to drag the bound archer with him.

The duo of Jack and Araneida easily made their way through the forces of the clan, eventually making it into what most likely was the ‘residential’ area of the camp, as weaker looking, casually dressed goblins began to fill the area around them. They gazed at Araneida and Jack with fright, while the Tamer and arachnid simply moved past them all.

Jack eyed them all with a sharp gaze, analysing them.

“It seems like, despite them being monsters, these guys still have their own way of living. They even have female variants for their species and children… I guess they are different from the Grey Goblins.” Jack commented in his mind. Then, his path was blocked by a pair of larger goblins, who wielded clubs and were dressed in thick armour.

  “Cease, intruders.”

Jack looked at the two goblins with boredom.

Jack then grinned. “Two massive brutes block my way… Brave – I’ll give you that.” Then, the man sighed before looking at them with a cold glare and a sinister smirk. “But also kind of idiotic.”

Then, the two clubs that the large creatures were holding shattered, as Jack landed behind them both. Using ‘Combat Experience’, his Agility had been boosted to a great amount, which allowed him to move so fast, that the creatures were unable to even catch a glimpse of the mans movement.

The other goblins watched in fear, while the large hobgoblins turned around, about to launch punches at Jack – however Araneida let out a loud shriek, freezing them.

  Araneida has activated [Intimidation].

Jack smirked. “Alright, if you two value your lives, then this is what will happen.” He turned to look at the two hobgoblins with a sinister grin. “You’ll take me to your King. If you refuse, I’ll behead you both right here and now.”

  “Like… hell.”

“Go… to hell…” The hobgoblins struggled to speak while under the effects of Araneidas ‘Intimidation’. Jack exhaled. “Disappointing.” He then reached down and put his right hand on his shortsword, about to draw it…

“Hold on, my Lord!” Sallow's voice echoed from afar. The green goblins around them looked at Sallow, their eyes widening while Jack looked towards him with a confused gaze.

  “Is that?”

  “No way right?”

“What is the grey king doing here?”

The goblins around them whispered amongst themselves. The two generals looked at Sallow with shocked expressions. “Grey King…!”

Sallow walked past Araneida and then the two large hobgoblins, before kneeling before Jack. “Spare their lives. I wish to only take the head of the King – no one else.” Jack looked at Sallow with a quiet gaze, before sighing and letting go of his shortsword, scratching the back of his head. “You know – That’s a pretty annoying request – again.”

“I am aware, my Lord, but I beg of you.” Sallow lowered his head even more before Jack. The other goblins watched in shock, unable to believe the sight before them. One of the Great Goblin leaders… Was kneeling before someone else.

  A human no less.

The goblins began to murmur among themselves, while Jack just clicked his tongue and then turned around. “Fine. We’ll only take the head of the King – no one else.” Sallow exhaled in relief, before standing back up. “Thank you, my Lord.”

Then, he looked at the two hobgoblins, with a fierce glare.

“Take us to your King. Now.”

The two hobgoblins shed a cold sweat, before lowering their heads. “...As you say, Grey King.”

After Araneidas ‘Intimidation’ was removed, the two hobgoblins led the group deeper into the clan camp. All the residents of the clan stared at Jack, Araneida and Sallow – whispering between one another as they all passed them. The bound archer, who was still being dragged along by Sallow, kept her head low – unable to decide whether she should feel embarrassed or ashamed for bringing these three individuals to the clan.

Eventually, the group was led to a large, large building – one that was very clearly much larger than any other building in the clan camp, as well as decorated a lot more than the other buildings. It very much screamed ‘ego’ and ‘pride’ – looking very much like the type of building a being that was self centered would live in.

The Hobgoblins turned to face the trio. “Wait here, we shall call our King.” Then, the two generals left sight – disappearing inside the large building. Jack eyed Sallow, who looked like he was suppressing a rage inside him, judging from how tightly he held his fists. It was clear that being just moments away from coming face to face with this clans King, was enough to make Sallows blood boil.

Understandably so — Jack should add.

Shortly afterwards, heavy footsteps echoed from outside the large building, followed by an angry groan. “Who the hell dares to charge into my territory and attack my precious grounds?!” A large green goblin exited the building. The goblin was about as tall as Sallow, with it being a lot bulkier than Sallow as well – almost being bulky enough to call ‘overweight’. It wore a light plate armour, which was decorated using some direwolf pelt as well as a crown, made of what appeared to be fangs — which could have belonged to any creature.

The goblin carried a massive war axe on his back, and its eyes shone with a deep blue colour. As he saw Jack, Araneida and Sallow, his anger turned to amusement. “Oh… It appears that the oh so great Grey King has decided to visit me.” He then clicked his tongue before looking at Sallow with a mocking gaze.

“Or rather – is Grey Loser more accurate now?” He laughed. Sallows' fists shook lightly, before he exhaled and stepped back – looking at Jack, who looked a bit surprised. “...I’ll let you talk, my Lord.”

Jack grinned. “He suppressed his own anger… Impressive. Controlling one's rage is not easy – especially when facing someone you really hate.” Jack stepped towards the Green Goblin king, sharpening his gaze on the creature.

“Guess he isn’t a prideful bastard for nothing.”

  [ Creature ]

  Green Goblin King

  Rank: C

  Level: 65 (2)

The ruler of the Green Goblins. This specimen seems to have gone through a genetic evolution after being appointed as the ‘King’ of the Green Goblins, causing it to gain a more bulky build as well as a greater muscle density.

  [ CREATURE ]

The Goblin king eyed Jack, scoffing before laughing. “What are you, a puny human?” He examined Jack, who crossed his arms and sharpened his eyes even more. “And you? Some overgrown glutton?”

If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

The king looked irritated by Jack's snarky comment, however didn’t lash out and simply laughed. “You’ve got guts to say such things in the face of the Green Goblin King.”

“A King? All I see in front of me is a slightly stronger Hobgoblin, with an ego the size of a desert.” The Green Goblin King looked even more irritated, before sighing. “I’ll be kind, despite your sharp tongue and attitude. I demand to know what you bunch are doing in my territory.”

“We’re here to question you about a few things.” Jack replied, a bit more seriously this time. However, his reply was met with a burst of laughter from the Green Goblin king, who almost fell over from how hard he was laughing. “You’re a hilarious one! You think I will answer any questions you have for me? Please – I have nothing to share with a puny human.”

He then looked at Sallow, sharpening his gaze. “Or even a pathetic excuse for a ruler, who lost to said puny human.” The goblin king turned around, looking bored as he moved back towards his large ‘palace’.

“I’ll be generous and allow you to leave alive this time – as long as you disappear and never dare to set foot on this place again.” Jack looked a bit irritated, however hid it with a wide sinister grin, as he reached for his shortsword. Sallow said it was fine to take this bastard's head off – so he may as well get it over with.

Before Jack got to move, Sallow let go of the Archer, leaving her next to Araneida, before walking over to Jack's side. “Green Goblin King…”

Sallow started, stopping the king in his tracks while surprising Jack with his sudden movement. Then, Sallow took in a deep breath, before taking his sword off of his back and crashing it into the ground, looking at the Green Goblin king with a piercing, furious gaze — his red eyes practically flaming. “I issue a conquerors challenge, right here and now!”

Every goblin around gasped in shock, while the Green Goblin King looked surprised for a second, before grinning and laughing in amusement. Then, he glared at Sallow. “You ought to know your place, you pathetic excuse for a ruler.” Jack looked a bit confused – clearly this ‘Conquerors Challenge’ was a big deal, based on the reactions of the goblins around them, however he couldn’t exactly put his finger on what it could be.

He had a vague guess – but not a cohesive answer.

Sallow glared back at the Green Goblin King. “You will accept, correct? Otherwise, what will your followers think, if you chicken out like a coward?”

The Green Goblin King looked pissed. “Who are you calling a coward?! I accept your challenge!”

Another wave of gasps roared through the goblins watching this interaction.

Jack sighed. “I’m going to guess that we’ll be here for a bit.”

The group was moved to a large ‘arena’ of sorts, that had been carved out in the center of the clans camp. The ‘spectator seats’ of the arena were filled with the residents of the Green Goblin clan, who all whispered among themselves. Down in the arena, the edges had guards lined up, who wielded large greatswords and were dressed in heavy iron armour.

Jack, Araneida, Sallow and the Archer were all sitting around in one corner of the arena, with the Archer looking nervous, while Sallow cleaned his blade. Jack with crossed arms, threw his gaze over at Sallow.

“So… What is this ‘Conquerors Challenge’?”

Sallow stopped for a second, before looking at Jack. “It’s the ultimate duel between two monarchs. In a conqueror's challenge, both sides fight until one side is unable to continue the fight. The winner gains full ownership of the loser's territory, becoming the new ‘ruler’ of the land.”

Jack narrowed his eyes. “And let me guess, the ‘unable to continue’ part usually means…”

  Sallow looked away.

  “...Death.”

Jack's expression soured a bit. It seemed like the stakes for this were high – no wonder the goblins around them were so surprised by Sallows' challenge when he announced it. To them, Sallow was still the king of the Grey Goblin clan, even if the clan technically no longer existed.

Jack sharpened his gaze, before smiling. “Then I suppose there is no reason to be afraid.” He said, turning around and moving over to Araneida and the Archer, who were sitting down on a small rock bench that was located up against the ‘arenas’ wall. Sallow remained silent for a bit, before exhaling.

  “...No. There isn’t.”

It wasn’t long then, until the two kings were standing in the middle of the arena, facing each other. The Green Goblin King was dressed in light plate armour, grinning widely as he kept his arms crossed and stared at Sallow with a mocking gaze.

“It was brave of you to issue this challenge against me, however we both already know the outcome.” The Green Goblin King stated, chuckling. Sallow remained silent, before nodding in agreement and taking his sword off of his back and stabbing it into the ground. “...Indeed. We do.”

From above them, a goblin descended on a platform, which was held up by chains. “Spectators! Today we bear witness to the conquerors challenge issued by the King of the Grey Goblin clan to our ruler!”

The audience watching fell silent, before cheering on a bit. It sounded like a gladiator arena. Then, the goblin looked at the Green Goblin King. “Your majesty, are you ready?”

The Green Goblin nodded with a grin.

  “This will be a cakewalk.”

Then the goblin turned towards Sallow. “Grey King, are you ready?”

Sallow didn’t say anything and simply nodded.

The goblin exhaled, before his platform was raised back up. “Then — begin!”

Immediately, the Green Goblin King leapt at Sallow with incredible speed, before swinging his war axe down at Sallow. Sallow remained in place for a moment, before dodging out of the way – however, the Green Goblin didn’t allow for Sallow to get in a counterattack, as he immediately swung his axe at the Grey Goblin again – swinging his weapon like a maniac.

Sallow kept backing up, dodging the attacks and leaving his greatsword behind.

The Archer looked confused. “Why isn’t the Grey King fighting back? He should grab his sword and fight…” Jack grinned and laughed lightly, leaning back. The Archer looked at the Tamer confused. “..Why are you…”

“Laughing? Because of your statement. Sallow doesn’t need to fight back – not yet at least.” The Archer looked even more confused, while Jack stood up and walked over to her side. In the distance, Sallow continued to dodge all of the Green Goblins attacks.

“He’s analysing the large green pimple.” Jack stated, sharpening his gaze. He has seen this strategy before – while training with his Master. During a mock battle his master showed him, she kept dodging her enemies attacks, allowing herself to be pushed back – while not allowing a single attack land on her.

While at the time, he didn’t understand it, after the fight, his Master explained that she had been analysing her opponent. She had been looking out for their attack patterns, weak spots and battle style – trying to gather as much information about her opponent during the fight before she struck herself. She had described it as…

“Analysis fighting. Sallow is making sure he learns as much as he can about the Green Goblins attacking style, before he strikes back – so that he has the advantage.” Jack finished his way of thought from earlier. The Archer looked unsure, looking towards the two clashing monarchs again, while shedding a cold sweat.

Though her loyalty belonged to the Green Goblin clan, she respected the Grey King with great deal — so she couldn’t help but feel worried.

The Green Goblin King continued to push Sallow back, swinging his axe around while laughing. “What’s wrong Grey? Are you too scared to attack me back? Pathetic!” The Green Goblin disappeared and appeared behind Sallow, having used a special ring on his left hand to execute a short distance teleportation.

Then, the Green Goblin swung his axe at Sallow with as much force as he could, his eyes flaming. “Such weakness—!”

  Clang.

The Green Goblin King's eyes widened. Sallow had stopped his axe swing with his bare hand — grabbing a hold of the blade, without even looking. Sallow then threw his gaze at the Green Goblin over his left shoulder, shining red eyes peeking their way over his shoulder.

  “...I’ve gathered enough.”

“What…?” The Green Goblin expressed, before Sallow broke his axe blade into bits by squeezing his hand. Then, during the moment of shock, he pummeled the Green Goblin King in the face, sending him flying into the arena's wall as well as shattering the helmet on his head. The crowd fell silent, shocked at the sight.

The Archer was also lost for words, while Jack just grinned.

“I know I did that entire speech earlier about Sallows strategy… However, it seems like Sallow wasn’t analysing his opponent. No..”

Jack walked back over to Araneida and sat down next to her. “He was just checking if the overgrown green guy is a threat.”

The Green Goblin King rose out of the rubble that had fallen onto him, before looking at Sallow with a shocked as well as furious expression. “You… You nobody! You dare to lay your hands on me!” The king leapt at Sallow, about to throw a powerful punch at the Grey Goblin, while his eyes flamed with a deep blue colour. “Die!”

Sallow dodged the initial punch, before proceeding to dodge the other punches that the Green Goblin threw at him, before grabbing his head and smashing the king into the ground with ease. Then, he threw the king back up, before punching him in the face again and sending him flying into another part of the arena's wall.

The fight had gone from a boring dodge simulator, to a one sided beatdown – very fast.

“I thought you would be stronger… But I was wrong.” Sallow stated with a cold voice. The Green Goblin King groaned in anger, before dashing at Sallow again, throwing a flurry of punches once more. “How dare you call me weak?! I am the mighty Green Goblin clan's king! Know your place, you Grey bastard!”

Sallow easily dodged his punches, before grabbing a hold of his fists and kicking the Green Goblin King in the stomach. “You are the one who should know their place.” Then, Sallow let go of his fists before proceeding to throw punch after punch at the Green Goblin, pummeling him in the face and slowly pushing him back and back.

Blood began to fly everywhere from the Green Goblin King, as he grit his teeth and looked at Sallow with an enraged glare. “You—”

“You talk too much.” Sallow sent the Green Goblin flying once more into the arena's wall, cutting him off. The spectators watched in silent shock, unable to believe the scene before them. The Archer also looked shocked. “How is this possible…”

Jack just smirked silently, while Araneida happily cheered Sallow on. Sallow slowly walked towards where the Green Goblin King was, his eyes flaming red. The Green Goblin once again rose out of the rubble, breathing heavily, before gritting his teeth and letting out a rage filled roar. Then, a massive burst of magical energy came from the Goblin King, pushing Sallow back, while generating a large wind force that spread across the arena.

The Archer's eyes widened in shock. “That’s…!”

  [ WARNING ]

Green Goblin King has activated ‘Monarch Transformation’.

  [ WARNING ]

Jack let out an amused exhale. “I see…”

After the burst of magical energy had finished, the Green Goblin King slashed through the dust cloud, his footsteps even heavier than before. His body was now covered in black, stone like armour, with deep blue lines pulsating all around him while a menacing aura surrounded him. His eyes shone brightly as well. “I’ll give you this — you’ve grown stronger. But it’s not enough.”

The Green Goblin King let out a loud laugh.

“I know how much you struggle to control your Monarch Transformation, so I am not afraid about losing to you now. Be grateful, I will give you a quick death.” The Goblin King prepared, exuding his muscles a bit.

Sallow sighed, before chuckling to himself and leaping back – landing by his blade. “I was waiting for you to do that.” He said, gripping his blade's handle before pulling it out of the ground and spinning it, before resting it onto his shoulder.

The Archer looked even more worried. “Surely the Grey King isn’t—!”

“He very much is.” Jack cut her off snarkily from behind, a grin stretching across his face. The Archer looked confused. “This is no joke — the Monarch form that the Green Goblin King possesses is extraordinarily powerful! The Grey King doesn’t stand a chance if he doesn’t activate his own!”

Jack laughed out loud at the Archers worries, before leaning forward.

The Archer looked confused. “Why are you laughing…”

“I will admit – that’s an impressive magical energy outburst and he does feel a bit stronger than before.” Then, the Tamers expression darkened, his grin turning a bit sinister and his eyes shining orange. “...But it is nowhere near enough to defeat Sallow.”

The Archer looked at Jack as if he was insane, before looking back at the stand off between the two monarchs. The Green Goblin King laughed. “Won’t transform? Fine. I’ll make sure to try and not crush you too fast.”

Sallow extended his blade towards the Green Goblin. “...The feeling is mutual.”

Then, the Green Goblin King launched himself at Sallow, appearing in front of the Grey Goblin within moments. Sallow pulled his sword back, before swinging it at the Green Goblin King, who snickered. “That won’t—!”

Before he got to finish, the blade forced him down – with the goblin struggling to push it back. The Green Goblin shed a sweat under his exterior. “Wh-what?! What is this power… I should be—!” Once again, before he got to finish, Sallow cut him off, punching in the face and sending him flying back, before dashing after the Green Goblin King and leaping into the air above him, crashing down with his sword onto the Goblin.

After the dust cleared, it became visible how the Green Goblin King had just barely managed to catch the blade and stop it with his hands, however was very much struggling to push it back, as Sallow placed more and more force down onto the blade – his red eyes flaming.

“This… this should be impossible! Monarch Transformation is the ultimate skill, and yet, he’s overpowering me without even using his?!”

The Green Goblin King managed to knock the blade away, before punching Sallow and pushing him back – however not causing any damage. Then, he quickly got back up to his feet before dashing at Sallow again. “No – it must have been a fluke! He must be nearing his exhaustion! I just need to last and then kill him!”

As he approached Sallow, the Grey Goblin vanished from sight, which caused the Green Goblin to cease his motion, before looking all around himself – searching for Sallow. Then, Sallow fell down from the air, landing behind the Green Goblin – his fist covered in a dark red mist.

The Green Goblin looked at Sallow with a fearful gaze, while Sallow threw his fist as a punch towards the face of the Goblin King — shattering the exterior of the Monarch Transformation that made up his ‘helmet’ and shocking everyone watching.

The Archer dropped to her knees. “He… broke through Monarch Transformation?”

Jack smirked. “So, he’s testing out his brand new Class Skill?”

‘Draining Fist’ — a Class Skill gained from the ‘Striker’ class possessed by Sallow. As the name implies, it allows Sallow to ‘drain’ the magical energy or life force of the individual who gets hit by it. It is indicated by the red mist that surrounds his fist or fists.

In this case, it allowed Sallow to drain away at the intense magical energy that surrounded the Green Goblin King because of the Monarch Transformation – and since the transformed form is maintained via magical energy, draining away at it weakened it just enough to knock the daylights out of the Green Goblin King.

After the face, Sallow pulled back his punch, before also pummeling the Goblin King's chest — cracking and then shattering the rest of the Monarch Transformation. Then, he grabbed a tight hold of the blade, before swinging it at the Goblin King and sending him flying back, crashing into the arena wall once more.

After that, Sallow tossed his sword at the Green Goblin King, the blade going straight through the King's chest, piercing his heart and sending blood flying everywhere.

Everyone watched in silent disbelief, while the Green Goblin Kings pupils shook for a second, as he coughed up blood. Then, he lifted his head up towards Sallow, who slowly approached him – towering over him with an ominous aura around him and shining red eyes.

  “Wh-what have you become…?”

“...None of your business.” Sallow stated, before pushing his blade more into the Goblin King's chest, before pulling it out and then swinging it back down, splitting the Green Goblin King in half and causing the spectators to look away or close their eyes for a second.

  [ ALERT ]

Familiar ‘Sallow’ has defeated the Green Goblin King.

  Familiar ‘Sallow’ has levelled up.

  23 > 40

  [ ALERT ]

  …Silence.

Not a sound was heard in the arena, as everyone tried to process what they had witnessed.

The Goblin from earlier shook its head, before lowering its platform. “T-The winner — Grey King!”

Sallow coldly gazed down at the mutilated body of the Green Goblin King, while Jack snickered and then grinned to himself, while Araneida hopped around happily, cheering for Sallow. After a moment, the Goblins watching also broke out into loud cheers – applauding him for his triumphant victory.

Jack leaned back, closing his eyes. “There you have it – your revenge, Sallow.”
