Chapter 2 – Keep on running.

Uma Musume. They were born to run. They inherit the names of horses from another world, whose histories were sometimes tragic and sometimes wonderful, and with that, they run. That is their fate.

However, one Uma Musume was born with no inherited name or history from another world. Her future is untold and unwritten, and the destiny of Uma Musume around her will change to her own will.

  …

On the date of March 28th of 1969, a baby, Uma, was born during the day of a sor eclipse after the gruelling push of the mother.

  “My daughter… she’s so beautiful…”

The mother spoke gently as she caressed the baby Uma’s bck hair.

“Oh? Looks like she also has white hair… Hehe, looks like you inherited from daddy too~.”

The father looked at his wife and daughter with adoration.

“Say cheese~” He hummed as he snapped a photo of us.

“Hey! I don’t look good right now!”

“Honey, you always look good to me~.”

“Guh! Fttering won’t get you anywher-”

The baby wailed, wanting to eat.

  “Haha!” “Hehe~”

And the baby continues wailing, echoing through the hospital.

“Goodness! What a range she has!”

The mother looked shocked before breastfeeding the needy Uma.

“Honey, I think I know what the best name for her is.” He grinned as he got into the posture of a bodybuilder, despite not having the body of a bodybuilder.

“Oh goodness, this better not be one of your puns.” She rolled her eyes, but ended up smiling.

  “Echo Eclipse!”

“My My~ That actually sounds good!”

“Hah! Keep praising me, your majesty!”

“Now, Now.” She rolled her eyes. “Go get the nurse over here. We will need to learn how to raise an uma.” The mother gave a defeated, gentle smile as neither of them is uma. So they don’t know how to raise a uma.

“O’righty O~” The father winked before leaving.

  “,,,”

“Ahh… What would your father do without me… Hehe,” She pyfully boops her daughter's nose.

  ***

It has been 5 years since Echo Eclipse was reincarnated into this world, and she is having a bst with her new body!

She has been enjoying her time running around in her backyard, despite being this young. She is this fast!

  ‘Run! It’s so much fun!’

She had learned from a very young age that this world is not the same world she was used to in her past life.

She giggled as she fell onto a patch of grass and stared up at the beautiful blue sky.

“The sky reminds me of that blue-haired goddess…”

She had always been thankful to the three goddesses who gave me the opportunity of a new life; she received a body that allows her to do what she desires the most.

  To run.

And they even gave me a gift…

“I wonder…” Echo murmured as she stared at the sky.

“How fast can I be with this? If I keep growing and growing… Will I be able to reach the goddesses?”

  “...”

  “Hehehe.”

She giggled and rolled around on the patch of grass before jumping up. She still felt the itch in her feet to keep running. This is the universal rule that has been embedded into every single Uma Musume's genetics.

“Faster! Faster!” Her childish giggles reverberated through the backyard as she sprinted with her tiny, adorable legs, yet moving faster than male human adults.

And with that, the little uma ran through the passing of time.

Echo Eclipse became 14 years old, and while she was racing in a park designated solely for Umamusme, a trainer from local Tracen Academy discovered Echo and her friends.

  “3!”

Echo lowered her centre of bance as she stretched her left leg back, her upper body leaning forward by 45 degrees, grinning excitedly.

  “2!”

A trainer, a 32-year-old female, who was jogging in the park, noticed this and stopped jogging, leaning against the bench. The track is proper, and the ground is hard and full of dirt. No Turf at all. But it is not meant for professional racing.

  “1!”

The human boy raises his hand from the side, acting like a fg while holding a timer. The track seems to be around 1000m long, and the trainer analyses Echo's starting position.

‘Compared to the other umas racing beside her, her pose is scarily simir to a professional uma. Is it instinctual? If so, impressive.’

Echo is the only uma that isn’t shifting her body around. Once the countdown is almost over, it is almost like she is a statue…

‘Like a statue?’ The trainer leaned forward with her eyes widened at this realisation.

  “Go!”

Like a blur, Echo immediately kicked the ground with her right foot to push herself forward, her limbs off the ground as her left foot reached the ground.

‘A forward position?’ The trainer thought that because Echo started accelerating.

The trainer's eyes widened even more.

“Such speed!” She spoke her mind.

“1 Length… 2 Length… 5 length…” Her breath started quivering at the speed; it looked like this countryside had become a home to a monster.

“She looks under 15… How young…”

  …

Echo loves the sound of her steps as she runs, the feeling of the wind rushing by, there is nobody to race beside, and yet, that is fine. She kept on running with or without anybody by her side. And without realising it. She passed the finish line.

The boy clicked the timer and sighed before shaking his head.

“1 Minute 10 seconds… Oi! Echo! You passed your personal best again!”

“Hehe!” Echo smiled after 5 seconds, the other uma passed the finishing line. Panting and breathing heavily.

“Echo! I don’t get how you are so fast… Fuah Fuah Fuah…”

“Eh? I just ran!” She smiled widely as if that expined everything.

Another human girl threw the water bottle at Echo.

“It almost feels like you guys were racing against Mr C. B!”

  “Bleh, she’s younger than Mr C. B.”

  “Hehehe!”

  She pulled up her status.

She nodded in satisfaction. It was hard raising her stats when there was no proper training equipment for her. She had to resort to callisthenics, jogging, sprinting, and swimming in the river, all to raise her stats.

  “Hey, kiddo.”

Echo jumped from the sudden voice behind her, and she turned around.

Seeing a crazy old dy who suddenly appeared behind her.

“Hey! I’m not an old dy!”

“Eeek! Did I say that out loud?!” Echo covered her mouth in shock.

The veins on the trainer's forehead twitched; it was all over the uma's face. That’s how she knew, and the uma only verified it even further.

“Aah…” She exhaled and shook her head.

  “What’s your name, kid?”

“Echo Eclipse!” She said immediately, " No sense of danger with this one.

But it makes sense after all, all uma are very friendly and pure…

  Aah…

“I’m Kiyaka, a trainer from this regional Tracen Academy.”

The trainer takes a closer look at the uma's appearance.

Short bck hair that reaches to her shoulder, lighter on the front with a streak of white hair that is swept to the right along the bangs. A crescent silver moon earring on her left ear. And the shocking part is found within those eyes. Her irises are pure bck like the void, and her pupils are pure white, as if she can see and judge your very soul.

Besides that, it looks like she could be a mascot with that personality of hers.

“Eh? Really?” Echo squinted her eyes with scepticism.

Kiyaka pointed at the badge that was pinned to her colr, but the damn uma tilted her head as she didn't recognise it. How did she even live without knowing about the badge?! I swear every uma she meets recognises the badge at first sight.

She exhaled once again, trying to calm her nerves down.

  “Do you want to race?”

  Echo nodded without a thought.

  “...”

  “...”

  ‘Is this girl for real?’

  “Aah…”

  She rubbed her forehead.

“I wanted to recommend you to the Central Tracen Academy.”

  “Don’t want to.”

  “...”

  “...”

  “You Da-”
