Chapter 42 The price of power

Chapter 42 The price of power

My vision swam as I choked out a few mouthfuls of blood, kneeling on the grass I barely held on to consciousness. Alice was on me in an instant, her hands sputtering a pale green hue of healing magic.

“Come on. I've got a little bit left… stay with me Xion.”

The bleeding slowed for a moment as Alice began sweating coldly.

“Let me help, healing isn't my specialty but I can heal a little.”

Sarah took my other side as Alice began to pant from over exerting her mana. Blood kept trickling down my arms, my muscles half torn off the bone from going beyond my limits. With a shaky breath my vision winked out and my body fell like a puppet with its strings cut.

  …

A pinprick of light shone. The darkness very slowly retreated and I could begin to make out my surroundings. Sarah sat in a chair to my side covered in bandages reading a book. I let out a low groan as I tried to move a bit in the bed.

The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

Sarah's eyes snapped to me in a heartbeat and she poured a glass of water from a pitcher on the bedside table.

“Xion? Can you drink this? Are you ok?”

She brought the cup to my lips and slowly helped me drink, the water tasted crisp and helped clear my mind a bit more.

“Ughhhh… I feel like Derek danced on me after being thrown through a building… wait. I was thrown through a building… fuckkkkkk my everything hurts.”

I looked down towards my body and I would make a mummy blush with how bandaged I was. Even my poor tail was in a sling and bandaged.

“The healers say you're extremely lucky to be alive, you lost a lot of blood and almost every bone in your body was broken. And that's just at the top of the list. Thankfully the lord covered the healing bill since we cleared out the thieves.”

Sarah very gently held my mummified hand as she spoke, her eyes looking sadly at my bandaged tail. I muttered a healing spell and felt a bone in my leg crack back into place and my mana almost immediately bottomed out.

“Hey, don't rush it. The healers will be slowly healing your whole body so you can just rest. You've been out for close to a week, just spend your mana practicing a skill or something if you're bored.”

Sarah got up from her chair as a clock chimed.

“I'll tell the others you're awake, try and sleep some more ok?”

Sarah slowly walks out of the room leaving me alone. After a minute I take a look at my new skill only for it to be greyed out. Mentally shrugging I play around with a small chunk of ice I conjure up, turning it into different shapes without incantations. My mind strains to handle the mana with just force of will and after a bit the ice melts and drops from my focus dropping.

A small puddle forms on the floor next to me from my spell. I lay there for a bit, bored out of my mind. Whatever the healers had given me for pain was doing an amazing job. I could tell that I still had quite a few broken bones as I tried to get a bit more comfortable.

After a bit I use some fire magic to dry up the puddle and then go back to bed for a while.

The sun is setting as a few healers circle around me, the apprentices draw a chalk circle around me as the healers join hands and begin chanting. This was new, I'd never seen ritual magic before. A warm glow began working its way through my body and my bones shifted back into place gently. It was like I was being carefully put back together by my mother.

I felt a rib crack back into place and one of my arms slowly shifted to a normal position. I gently curled my fingers and marveled at my body responding to me once more.

“Alright, we've gotten close to fully fixing you up, or at least as close as we can get with our magic. A few more ritual healing spells and some bed rest and you can get back on your feet.”

A woman in a rough tunic handed me a plate full of food and scurried off after the healers as they left. Using my good arm I made quick work of my meal. Staring at the ceiling in the fading sunlight I looked at my status.

[Many foes defeated- 88,730 XP gained!]

  [Level up! Lvl 14-19!]

Smiling gently at my gains I laid back down and slept.

Should I rewrite the story up to this point?
