Chapter Thirty-One Stuck in the Civil

There were many things that would have to be done in order for the heist to be made possible. There had to be a distraction against authorities so that way if they were seen they wouldn’t be attacked on site. Then, they had to find a way into the building so as not to notify the aforementioned authorities. Then, they needed to get in and out without any evidence of them ever being there.

“So… where are we going to go use the john?”

“I don’t even want to think of that.”

For hours on end, they had whispered to one another, and it was a good decision. Days on end of listening to office chatter would drive the sanest man to being mad.

  “So, you’re a professional boxer?”

Stolen content warning: this tale belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences elsewhere.

“Professional is a formal term, but yes.”

Almost the entire day was spent working towards the moment when suddenly, the elevator started. Javier stood as he knew what this meant. The job had no one hurt and little damage to anything. There were many beasts on the top floor that would need to be dealt with in due time.

  “Showtime.”

As the elevator slowly moved upward, John had a sense of dread come over him. Despite how he lived amongst the people of this fake world he couldn’t shake the feeling that this wouldn’t end well.

  “Not quite, look.”

Javier pointed his index finger at the elevator wells and the two could see that the elevator was coming to a stop. Not thinking fast, he put his hand down to grab the hand held radio. When he held it up to his ear, he saw that Burino was waiting patiently for their voices.

“Please tell me you have good news.”

  “Not quite.”

  “Alright, spit it out.”

  “The elevator might be stuck.”
