Chapter 1: Accusations

Sora was piloting the gummi ship while Donald Duck and Goofy were discussing the next world that they were heading to behind him. They flew around for a good bit of time until they came across a world that seemed to be a fantastical version of a medieval kingdom.

"What do you guys think? Should we land there?" Sora asked the other two while pointing to the world in question.

"Gawrsh, It sure looks awfully nice." Goofy replied in his usual distinct dialect.

"Let's land, Sora!" Donald exclaimed, hoping that Sora would get the same excited feeling that he was.

The group proceeded to land on this beautiful looking world, but what they are about to find out is that appearances can be deceiving. Much like our other hero.

Down in the fantastical kingdom stood a man who was alone both physically and mentally. He was isolated from the kingdom because of an accusation placed on him by the princess.

"What the hell?" The man questioned, his head tilted, his eyes guarded, stinging from the tears cascading down his face like his own personal waterfall. He was a normal college student from another world much like our own, and the accusations against him were serious, considered the gravest offense in Melromarc. Melromarc is the world that our heroes saw from the gummi ship as the beautiful, magical kingdom. However, from the perspective of this man, it was anything but. The man's name is Naofumi Iwatani, and his luck just might change around. Naofumi, seeing a flashing light in the sky, and thinking that it was a shooting star, wished for the world to see him for what he was, and not what the lies and false accusations made him out to be. He was supposed to be the Shield Hero. The guy who was defending everyone. The only problem is, no one was defending him.

"What good is this world!?" Naofumi shouted. His fists clenched, his anger so seething that blood trickled down his palms. The only person to believe him in this world was the blacksmith back in town, but even he wanted to punch Naofumi's lights out at first.

"Almost there!" shouted Sora. His happiness exuded from his face and voice. You could say that his energy was contagious, that he could make friends with anybody.

When the trio got to right above the world, they surveyed the location, and everything was as it seemed. Sora, Donald, and Goofy beamed down into Melromarc, expecting an amazing adventure.

A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

Once they got to the kingdom, they saw people putting up 'wanted' posters around the area. As they were looking around, they heard a woman mutter something about a legendary shield hero as she looked at one of the posters.

"If he's a hero, he can't be that bad. Can he?" Sora questioned, looking at his Keyblade and wondering if it could have chosen a master of darkness instead.

The gang decided to look around the city to see if they could find the man. They came across a weapon shop in town that looked like a good place to check out. When they got through the door they were welcomed by a blacksmith, who was looking concerned.

"What is with all of these kids showing up in my shop today?" His furrowed face signifying hard work and determination.

"We're looking for the Shield Hero." Sora exclaimed, his hands slamming against the counter, open palmed, a hint of worry in his voice.

"Right, the other kid. He's in a lot of trouble right now, isn't he?" the blacksmith quietly muttered, particularly in the second half of his statement.

"I really don't think he did what they say he did…" The blacksmith said, almost feeling enlightened that someone else out there saw the good in Naofumi.

"We've seen a similar situation to this before." Donald retorted, thinking back to their adventures in Wonderland.

"Do you know where he could have gone off to?" Goofy chimed into the conversation, as he, too, worries about Naofumi.

"The kid left for the forest north of here. Something about leveling up." The blacksmith sullenly responded. The blacksmith then shook his head, brought a smile back to his face, and exclaimed

"Erhard's the name. Nice to meet you three. If you're friends of the shield kid, you're friends of mine, too! By the way, is there anything I can help you with? Weapons? Armor? You name it, I'll sell it to ya for a discounted price."

Sora, Donald, and Goofy shared glances with each other and showed Erhard their collective pouches. Erhard opened the pouches, and looked confused.

"Sorry. This currency isn't in circulation here in Melromarc. We only deal in copper, silver, and gold pieces."

The trio, looking disheartened, took the pouches back, huddled together, and whispered.

"Munny isn't going to work in this world. What do we do?"

Sora, Donald, and Goofy, who were saddened by the news, held back their tears and jovially waved goodbye to Erhard and were just about to leave, when suddenly, in popped a Moogle carrying a backpack

  "Sorry I'm late!" He exasperated.

"Um, who's this?" Erhard looked at the creature who was of entirely unknown origin to him.

"That's a Moogle. He's from, umm. Somewhere far, far away from here." Sora said, trying to save the world order.

"I see, and he might just conveniently be able to use your currency, too?" Erhard said, a hint of suspicion in his voice.

With that, Sora, Donald, and Goofy set off to find Naofumi, the hero with a shielded heart.
