Chapter 9: A New Companion

[Purchase confirmed. You have received 5 Bronze Tickets, 3 Silver Tickets, 2 Gold Tickets, and 3 Ptinum Tickets.]

  [Remaining Gacha Points: 1]

Leon let out a long, measured breath, staring at the "Roll" button. He rolled the Bronze Tickets first. The familiar, low-tier colors illuminated the screen.

  [Perfect Skin]

  |Common Trait|

Your skin is one any model would envy, always perfectly moist, supple and smooth. Your skin also never scars or gets marred unless you want it to. Skin and superficial injuries also heal slightly faster and more seamlessly.

  -x-

  [Slip In]

  |Common Ability|

You were always a slippery one. You can pass your body through any opening wider than 5 centimeters in length and come out of the other side. Look out for tight and narrow spaces.

  -x-

  [Job Application Form]

  |Common Item|

"Does this scare you?" An otherwise ordinary looking job application form, that when filled with the correct information and handed to an employer, will guarentee that the applicant is hired no matter the job or their qualifications. Although, it's not guaranteed that they will keep the job. The form loses this effect after being used once.

  -x-

  [Goth Magnet]

  |Uncommon Trait|

Goths and emos are drawn to you for some reason, making it easier for you to garner affection and favor from goths or those with daddy issues. In addition, people turn a blind eye to your less-than-favorable actions more easily, just like how awful fathers turn a blind eye to their daughters.

  -x-

  [Tonguesh]

  |Common Ability|

Allows you to reinforce and elongate your tongue to a maximum of 36 meters, to use as a whip, another limb, or the other obvious use cases.

Leon sighed as he felt all the new rewards settle in him and his storage subspace.

…It is what it is. I guess I was just lucky the first time, huh?

At least Slip In had a lot of utility for getting into pces and escaping them. Tonguesh could be a good st resort or hidden card, though the thought of touching anything dirty with his tongue wasn't appealing, least of all a person.

  The Silver Tickets were next.

  [Healing Light]

  |Rare Ability|

Allows you to bathe a target in healing light, capable of healing even severe wounds. Effect scales with your power level. Stronger targets need more energy to heal.

  -x-

  [Taser]

  |Common Ability|

Allows you to channel electricity through your body and discharge it. This is strong enough to seriously hurt someone.

  -x-

  [Portal Gun]

  |Rare Item|

Portal - A Portal Gun developed by Aperture Science that allows it to send a blue and orange pulse. Wherever the pulse nds will open a person-sized portal that connects to the other portal of the opposite color. Only one of each color can exist at once.

Leon sat still for a moment as the abilities integrated. He felt his internal pool of energy find two new outlets. It was like discovering two hidden valves. One allowed him to convert the raw power into something soft, warm, and fundamentally vital. The other let him transform it into electricity that he could aim at someone close.

He looked at his hands. The faint soreness in his knuckles from his earlier training session lingered, so he pushed a small amount of energy into them, intending them to mend.

A soft green light washed over his hands, like a warm compress applied directly to the bone and muscles. Within seconds, the soreness vanished. The skin over his knuckles, previously slightly reddened, became smooth and pristine.

Leon exhaled. Finally, a healing ability.

His mind immediately went back to the basement. He saw the bruises on the boy's arms, the injured faces of the girls, and the sheer trauma that came with being "Bio-Stock." He'd rescued them, yes, but he'd left them with the physical evidence of their nightmare.

Now, he didn't have to. If he met them again, or anyone else Machine Head had chewed up and spat out, he could erase the damage. It wouldn't heal the mental trauma, but it was better than nothing.

His eyes were then on the physical object that he pulled out from the subspace: the Portal Gun.

It was sleek, white, and looked exactly like the piece of high-end Aperture Science tech he'd seen in the Portal games. Leon picked it up, feeling the ergonomic grip and its dual-trigger mechanism.

  "It's lighter than it looks."

He smiled as old memories charged to the forefront of his mind. The Portal games, despite their rather simple concept, were some of the video games he had enjoyed the most.

Too bad the developers didn't make a Portal 3.

He aimed at the far end of the gym and pulled the first trigger. A globule of blue light spshed against the marble, expanding into a swirling cerulean oval. He turned and pulled the second trigger, firing an orange pulse at the kitchen wall.

  He whistled in appreciation.

Now connected, Leon could see where each portal led. He stepped through the blue portal and immediately stumbled out into the kitchen. Going back in the portal took him back to the gym.

"Near-unlimited teleportation for pretty much zero energy cost," Leon whispered, checking the device. "This is a game changer."

Now I know to buy Silver if I wanna go for a decent quantity-to-rewards ratio. Next!

  [Hypnos' Mask]

  |Rare Item|

A sleeping mask blessed by Hypnos, the god of sleep. When wearing this mask, your nights are perfectly restful, and all your energy recovers after 6 hours of uninterrupted sleep.

  -x-

  [Sunlight Spear]

  |Rare Ability|

Dark Souls - Allows the user to conjure a spear of lightning imbued with the power of the sun that they can throw as a projectile. This spear possesses penetrative power and deals increased damage against draconic entities and unholy beings.

As the knowledge about how to form his energy into a Sunlight Spear settled in his mind, Leon immediately understood its value. He recalled what he could about Mister Liu, the only other member of The Order he knew about aside from Machine Head.

That old man could project his soul and become a dragon strong enough to beat Invincible and Eve's combined effort. I'm nowhere near that level yet, but this should help me if I ever have to fight him.

It was a silver bullet he hoped he'd never have to use, but he was damn gd to have it.

He turned his attention to the mask. If he was honest, he predicted he would likely need it after this night operation was done. Now, only the heavy hitters remained.

  Leon rolled the Ptinum Tickets.

  [Curse Breaker]

  |Rare Ability|

Allows you to break curses by touching them or an area around you with some training. The strength of the curses and charms you can break scales with the amount of energy you expend.

  -x-

  [Constant]

  |Epic Trait|

You are a constant. Your body cannot be changed by outside influences without your consent (as in stuff like soul manipution or biomancy, and not regur attacks). In addition, you are immune to paradoxes and only one of you exists as you cannot be cloned or be replicated either.

  -x-

  [Panther Lily]

  [Elite Familiar]

Fairy Tail – Panther Lily is a member of the Exceed, a race of catlike beings. He is capable of flight magic and is an extremely capable melee combatant in his battle mode. He wields the Musica Sword, an expensive weapon capable of altering its size, and is a swordsman capable of evenly matching the S-Css Mage Erza Scarlet in a mock battle.

Constant felt like a heavy iron bolt being driven through his soul. It was a grounding sensation. He felt "fixed" in reality. From now on, no one could clone him, no one could rewrite his DNA, and no one could manipute his soul without his say-so.

In a world of mad scientists and cosmic horrors, it was potentially the best insurance policy he could get.

Curse Breaker now sat in his mental repertoire of abilities. This one could have some use since curses were an actual thing in this world. But before he could continue that line of thought, a pilr of light coalesced in front of him.

A small, bck, cat-like creature with a white muzzle, orange-red eyes, and a prominent scar over his left eye manifested. He wore green trousers and carried a red sword on his back that, in this diminutive form, was the size of a long dagger.

"So," the cat said, his voice a surprisingly deep, gravelly baritone. "I've been pulled from the archives into... whatever this pce is."

Leon blinked, crouching down and meeting the cat's intense gaze. He couldn't believe how cute Panther Lily looked in his smaller form. "You're Panther Lily."

The cat sniffed the air, his tail flicking with rhythmic motion. He looked at Leon's purple waistcoat, then at his perfectly smooth face. "And you are my summoner? You look more like a nobleman heading to a ga, boy. And you smell... strangely of expensive soap and lics."

Leon gave a wry smile. "It's complicated. I'm Leon. Leon Grayson. And this pce is the High Roller Suite, my current home. It's... between pces."

"I see." Lily jumped up onto a training bench, his movements fluid and sharp. "I can feel the tether tying my existence to you. You're pouring quite a bit of energy just to keep me manifested. It's a bold move, unless you have a reservoir of energy the size of a ke."

"Kind of? Not sure if it really is ke-sized though," Leon replied, leaning back against a weight rack. He barely felt the energy being drained, so maybe Lily was right. "Lily, I have to ask. Are you the Panther Lily from Fairy Tail? Or just... a copy?"

Lily sat back, crossing his paws. "You understand the nuances of Fate's 'Servant' system, I presume?"

Leon nodded. "Copies of Heroic Spirits pulled from the Throne of Heroes that's beyond time and space."

"Then you have your answer," Lily said, crossing his arms and puffing his chest. "I am a manifestation of the Commander of the First Magic War Division and the Fairy Tail guild's most powerful exceed. My memories, my pride, and my sword techniques are all as real as the original's. I know I am a copy, but my heart beats with the same rhythm. I am Panther Lily. Whether I am the 'original' or a shadow of him matters little as long as my bde can still cut."

"Fair enough," Leon said, a small smile appearing. "I'm gd to have a professional on the team. I've been winging everything so far and didn't have anyone to spar with until now."

Lily surveyed the gym, his eyes narrowing as they nded on the Portal Gun Leon put down and the nebu outside. "Magic and advanced technology... This is a strange world you've brought me to. I can sense no ethernano in the air. Tell me, Leon, why am I here? Am I to be a pet, or a soldier?"

"A partner," Leon said, his voice firm. "Before anything else, there's something you have to know. There's an underground organization in this world called 'The Order' that's ruled by powerful supervilins. They're the worst of the worst, dipping their dirty hands in every form of crime you can think of."

"This 'Order' reminds of the Bam Alliance from my world, though the dark guilds were more focused on fulfilling their own lofty goals than anything else." Lily hummed, nodding his head before narrowing his eyes at Leon. "But that look on your face tells me there's more to them you've yet to say. What is it about this organization that has you so disturbed?"

"…I recently found out that they're taking children, keeping them in cages, and using them as 'bio-stock' for experiments I still don't know anything about. I raided one of the pces they keep the children in not even half an hour ago, but I'm afraid I've only scratched the surface of their operations."

Lily's tail stopped flicking. His entire demeanor shifted. "Children? In cages?"

  "Yeah."

"How detestable. That must mean this 'nobleman' look is a disguise. I see," Lily murmured and Leon didn't bother to correct him. The assumption wasn't completely off the mark. "Good. I have no use for a Master who pys at war. If there are innocents in chains, my sword is yours. But don't expect me to be easy on you during our sparring sessions, because if you intend to take on this 'Order,' I will ensure you are up to the task."

Leon grinned. "I look forward to it."
