Chapter 10: Those red eyes!Luna Pov

To think I was covered in blood. I guess this reaction was to be expected. Welp, from now on, I'll clean myself before coming to the gate.

I enter the guild and go to the reception desk.

I'm Recepti Onist. I'm the guild receptionist of the Adventurers Guild. My days are always monotone. After waking up at 7 AM, I would get ready before opening the guild at 8 AM. Then, until 3 PM, I would py the receptionist, using snacks to keep myself afloat. At 4 PM, I would reopen the guild after eating lunch and stay until 11 PM. One day a week, I would have free time.

It's currently 8 PM, and I'm sitting at my desk as usual. Then I see a girl with smooth white hair and eyes that shine like rubies enter the guild. She is, as always, wearing a shirt and shorts. I have a good memory of her. After all, only yesterday did she rebuke everyone present, even tho she's an eight-year-old. Something so memorable isn't something you forget so easily.

I, personally, have a good impression of her. After all, I was always trying to tell those inflexible geezers that they are just killing the children. However, those morons still did that, saying that they worked in the industry and would therefore know better. Those guys know nothing!

"Excuse me, I would like to submit a request."

Oh, so she did do the herb gathering quest today. And she has no injuries, so I guess she didn't encounter a wolf.

  "Yes. Which request is it?"

Of course, I already know she did the herb gathering quest. But I still need to ask for formality.

  "The wolf hunting one."

What?! She came back unscathed without even a rip in her clothes after hunting wolves?!

  "How many did you hunt?"

  "Ninety-three."

What?! My brain stops for several seconds.

"Excuse me, I believe I have misheard you. Can you please repeat?"

I must have. After all, this is too absurd.

  "I have hunted ninety-three wolves."

  Did I mishear again?

"You aren't mishearing things, Ma'am," she follows up, probably already having guessed my thoughts.

I compose myself. "Can you please follow me to our dismantling grounds?"

  "Yes."

We leave the guild through a side door and enter the dismantling grounds. It is a big field. Monster corpses are already pced here in several piles, each with a sign indicating ownership.

"This is where you can pce your monster corpses after completing a quest. Just talk to Disman here. He will assess your corpses and pay a reasonable amount." I gesture toward a person who is in the middle of dismantling a Demon Wolf.

"Ok, thank you." She walks in the direction of Disman before talking to him. Before long, he makes the same wide-eyed expression I must have had when I learned of the number of monsters she hunted. Then he gestures toward a big empty space. Not long after, a big portal appears, before one wolf part falls down after the other.

First, some sliced apart wolves appear. I am surprised. Cutting apart those wolves couldn't have been easy. The materials are mostly usable, tho they could've been cut in a more material-preserving way. What appears next, however, makes my blood run cold.

It isn't some stronger monster. No. What unsettles me is the way it died. One wolf has a fist print going through half its body into its heart. More monsters continue falling. One whose spine is twisted at a ninety-degree angle, one whose head was ripped off its body, one who has a footprint going through nearly its whole skull and even one whose entire body was ripped in two, starting at the jaws.

What kind of monstrosity did that?! Involuntarily, my gaze nds on the Lunar Rabbit, a name she obviously took because of her hair colour. Coincidentally, our gazes meet, and the red eyes that looked like beautiful rubies before now seem to want to tear me apart. They pierce me as if piercing my soul. My heart rate jumps, and cold sweat seeps from my pores. However, I don't notice it. Not even how my underwear slowly gets wet from losing control over my bdder. After what feels like an eternity, her gaze turns away.

My legs give in, and I kneel on the ground. My vision blurs. I feel as if I have just survived the most hellish ordeal in existence. Before the relief can fully settle in, my mind stops working from exhaustion, and I lose consciousness.

I wake up with ragged breaths, instantly snapping into a sitting position. After calming down, I look around. After a few seconds, I know where I am. It's the inn that I always recommend to new adventurers. It is affiliated with our guild. In return for recommending adventurers to book a room here, we get part of the profits.

Looking at the drawn curtains and the ck of light behind them, I can conclude that it is already sleep time.

However, one question still remains. Who brought me here? As far as I know, there is only one person among the people present in the guild back then who could still be living here. I didn't recommend her this inn, but still, she's the only one whose living quarters I'm not aware of. A feeling of dread hits me. It can't be! Suddenly, I notice movement beside me. Slowly, I turn my head, before my eyes nd on the being I now dread the most. I do my best not to scream, barely holding it in.

As I calm down and look at her again, I don't find her as scary anymore. Instead, she seems like an innocent little girl. Her slightly longer front teeth, which I never noticed before, actually make her look a little like a rabbit. Suddenly, the name Lunar Rabbit seems to perfectly fit her.

I stand up, before noticing that I'm in sleepwear. On the table, there is a carrot stew and a note. It says:

"You suddenly broke down, seeming really scared of something. I'm sorry if I shocked you with the wolf corpses. I thought, as a guild receptionist, you were used to such sights. I guess I did handle the wolves a bit roughly. Anyway, I left some food in case you wake up tonight. If you have an urgent question for me, please rip this note.

"Also, I took the liberty of cleaning and dressing you with magic. Your clothes are in the corner of the room. I cleaned them as well."

Now that she says it, why did I really faint? Right! It was all after looking at her eyes! Does she know those eyes have such an effect?
