Chapter 30: Gone

The night in Gotham hadn't fully faded yet when Viktor and Rachel started flying toward Boston.

He flew up into the air, holding Rachel's arm gently with one hand, sweeping past towering Gothic buildings as the night wind rushed past their ears.

However, Viktor didn't dare fly too quickly when considering Rachel's fragile-looking body .

They quietly enjoyed the view of Gotham at night for a while. There wasn't much to see, and it was super dark with the occasional sound of coarse shouting in the distance.

"It's slower than your magic, but it's still pretty steady, right?"

He turned his head and smiled.

Rachel pulled her hood tighter, her violet eyes glowing startlingly in the darkness with her tone sounded impatient.

"It's childish, and the wind up here is really cold."

"Do you want me to slow down even more?"

  "No need."

After murmuring a few incantations, a yer of purple light shield so thin it was nearly transparent, covered her body. She then allowed him to carry her through the air for nearly an hour.

"Let me try it my way."

Suddenly, Rachel spoke up, signaling for him to stop.

After nding, she quickly walked to the center of an empty field. Her fingers glowed with pale purple magical light as a magic circle more complex than any previous magic slowly spread across the ground.

"A long-range teleportation requires a minute of preparation. Don't move."

Viktor stood still in the center of the magic circle as she asked.

Rachel's gestures became faster, and the light from the magic circle grew brighter. Just as it was about to finish, the entire magic circle suddenly trembled violently, then shattered like broken gss.

The pale purple magical smoke instantly dissipated into the air, leaving only a few residual energy traces on the ground.

  "It failed."

Rachel withdrew her hand, her expression calm.

"Failed? You're not injured, right? Is there any magic backsh?"

He suddenly realized that it might be due to his unique physiology, and his face showed some apology.

  Rachel shook her head.

"I'm not like regur magicians or sorcerers. I just lost a bit of magic energy."

He stepped forward, looking at the remnants of the symbols on the ground, his brow furrowing slightly.

  "Is it my fault?"

Rachel nodded, her tone carrying some helplessness.

"Teleportation magic relies on soul positioning. For normal people, their souls are fixed within their bodies, their position stable, but you're different now."

She paused for a moment, then added, "Your body is so strong and fast that as soon as you move, the magic is disrupted by your body. You'll probably need to stay still for it to work."

Viktor's mind shifted, and he instinctively restrained all his strength.

The once deliberate control over every muscle contraction and the flow of blood through his veins now slowed down like an extension of his will.

The evolution brought by the emotional spectrum radiation not only healed his soul and body but also allowed him to fully master his own strength.

He could control it way better than even when Diana tried to teach him how to keep his mind and body focused.

"I'll try to remain as still as possible."

Viktor stood once again, his muscles tense but not stiff, even his breath slowed to its most peaceful rhythm. Rachel's usual bnk expression waved her hands a few times, and the magic circle began to glow again.

The symbol this time in the magic circle flowed steadily without any tremor, and the pale purple light wrapped around both of them and the surrounding space.

Viktor felt a brief flicker of light and shadow in front of his eyes, and the air around them shifted from the cold, desote feel of the wastend to a warm, salty breeze.

The long-range teleportation spell had crossed the distance of two states in an instant.

Viktor flew up high, then took out the communicator that Batman had given him. After fiddling with it for a moment, he opened the positioning to confirm their current location.

The little gadget looked like an MP3 pyer but had a lot of functions.

Then, the two of them took turns again and arrived at their destination in Boston.

"You're more stable than I expected."

Rachel leaned against the chimney on the rooftop, her hood covering most of her face. She nonchantly watched the street below, surrounded by a faint magical aura, instinctively setting up an invisible barrier around herself.

After Viktor lifted the waterproof tarp, he crouched down, his fingers over the thin frost that had formed on the surface of the pod.

The outer shell glinted with a cold, matte finish in the morning light.

"I'll just pack some important stuff. This thing isn't that big and can't fit much more anyway."

He raised his hand and pressed the hatch button. The hydraulic system hummed faintly as the hatch slowly opened, revealing the simple control panel and storage area inside.

As he bent down to rummage through the contents, Viktor's fingers brushed against several cylindrical containers. He picked one up and was surprised to find that they were canned nutritional supplements.

It was only now that he suddenly remembered that when he had been severely injured, Viktor had instinctively grabbed some supplies and stuffed them into the escape pod.

But after arriving on Earth and facing one change after another, he completely forgot about these items. He felt a flicker of curiosity and began to scan the inside of the pod more carefully.

Bruce Wayne had repaired the escape pod, but hadn't touched the contents inside.

'I wonder if there's anything else in here I didn't know about?'

Viktor's curiosity took over. He started feeling around every corner of the pod, tapping on panels until tapping on different parts until his fingers detected a faint hollow spot.

He followed the spot until he touched a hidden little button. A metal pte slowly popped out, revealing a hidden storage compartment inside.

Inside the compartment y a set of bck-and-gray emergency spacesuits, lightweight in material with a familiar texture.

He picked it up and studied it for a moment, and then memories suddenly flooded back to him.

Back on Titan, after he had killed the first Viltrumite, the remaining Titanians had dragged the body away. He had been preoccupied then and too zy to care at that time.

Now, it seemed that the Titanians had already made thorough preparations. This spacesuit had been temporarily modified from the Viltrumite's white battle suit.

They added a sealed neck opening and a life-support helmet, then painted the whole thing bck and gray—completely opposite to the Viltrumite suit.

It was a clear statement, marking a line between the enemy that had wiped out their people. Viktor felt a mix of emotions as he put the spacesuit away and closed the hidden compartment and closed it.

"I'm going to say goodbye to Ms. Prince. I'll be back soon."

He spoke in the direction where Rachel had disappeared. Rachel's voice drifted through the air with an indifferent tone.

"Remember dinner. Don't make me eat another cold bread."

Afterward, the sound of her footsteps faded as she entered the escape pod, and the invisibility magic remained active.

Viktor waited for a moment, watching as more people started walking on the street below, quietly opened the rooftop door, and carefully went down the stairs.

As he reached the corner on the second floor, Viktor ran into Vanessa, who had just woken up. She was wearing loose cotton pajamas, and a fsh of surprise appeared in her eyes when she saw him.

"Viktor? You're finally back! Where have you been the past few days?"

Viktor paused for a moment, smiled back, and then casually asked, "Is Diana here? I wanted to say hello to her."

Vanessa's smile faded slightly, and her tone held some regret.

"The night you didn't come back, she came back very te, and wasn't in a good mood. The next morning, she said she needed to go to Paradise Isnd to clear her head. It's been a few days now, and I haven't heard anything from her ever since."

Vanessa seemed a bit annoyed but also worried.

"I thought you two left together."

He nodded in understanding and fell silent for a moment.

"I'm just here to grab a few things. I'm preparing to leave Boston."

He told Vanessa with a small nod.

"Thanks for taking care of the escape pod during this time."

  Vanessa was obviously somewhat reluctant.

"It's alright, you should come visit me here if you have time. Once I finish my studies, I'll take you around the city. The sunrise by the sea is beautiful."

After saying goodbye to Vanessa, Viktor returned to the rooftop and activated the escape pod.

Rachel raised her hand and cast an invisibility spell to cover the entire escape pod.

The next stop was the small cabin in the suburbs of Metropolis. He wanted to visit Tom again, and there was lots of open space there with few people, making it a secure pce to position the escape pod.

After more than ten minutes of silent travel, the escape pod nded precisely on the beach next to the cabin.

Viktor was the first to step out of the pod and walk toward the cabin.

The wooden door was slightly open.

He gently pushed it open, revealing a neat cabin, but there was a cold, empty feeling as if no one had lived there for a while.

There was no dust on the furniture, clearly cleaned before leaving, but there was no sign of life. The stove hadn't seen use, the cabinets were empty, and the farming tools in the corner were neatly arranged, covered in silence.

He stood dazed for a few seconds, walking over to the window. He look out at the rolling waves in the distance, his fingers lightly tracing the cold windowsill.

  Tom wasn't just out fishing.

The door bolt wasn't locked, and all the fishing gear was stored inside. Clearly, Tom had left on his own and didn't pn to come back.

Rachel walked over and stood next to him, looking at the empty cabin. She didn't speak, just quietly stood with him for a moment.

  "What are you thinking about?"

"Nothing... Have you ever gone fishing?"
