Inside and outside the metal gate are two completely different worlds. Inside, there is a very large venue packed with swarms of people, extremely lively. The ceiling is hung with many large bright white lanterns, the largest and brightest one in the middle illuminating a huge boxing ring in the center of the venue. A four-sided iron cage surrounds the outside of the boxing ring, where two tall men are wrestling each other.
Two men with blood all over their faces and heads, one of whom had the upper hand, pinning the other's head down and smashing his knee into his face, while the people around them cheered in sync with each blow.
Jin Ling'er saw that with his constant blows, the man's face was constantly splattered with blood, falling on the bloody marks already on the ground. This scene made her frown tightly.
There were not a few seats around the boxing ring for the guests who came to watch the match, but most people in this situation could not sit quietly in their seats. They all stood up excitedly, crowded at the edge of the iron cage, and even if blood splattered on their faces, they shouted loudly with excitement.
Jin Ling'er, a traditionally educated girl and also a police officer, had never been to such a place before. She looked at the scene with disgust and turned her head away.
Du Ming noticed Jin Ling's discomfort and said to her, "Take it easy, this is just the dark side of society. As a frontline detective police officer who participates in investigating underworld cases, you won't encounter fewer such things in the future. Let's go."
Jin Ling nodded and tried her best to suppress the disgust in her heart, following Du Ming and the big man into the inner room.
The big man led Du Ming and Jin Ling'er around the boxing ring and the audience seats, then through a small corridor. At the end of the corridor were several rooms. The big man knocked on one of them, and a voice came from inside, "Come in!"
Dahan pushed open the door and shoved Du Ming inside.
The interior was very simple, but all kinds of trash were thrown everywhere, full of smoke smell. There was a desk facing the door, and a middle-aged man sat behind it, asking, "What's wrong? What's going on?"
The big man pointed at Du Ming, "Boss, this guy says he wants to be an underground boxer and participate in the boxing match."
"Who is this?" The manager raised his eyes and looked Du Ming up and down, waving his hand impatiently. "You've worked here for so long, how can you not understand the rules? Who do you bring in here? Let him go! This kind of person will be beaten to death on stage within a minute, and the profit is not even as much as our packaging!"
"Uh," Da Han said somewhat awkwardly, "Manager, this person actually has some skills, I think we can give him a try."
The manager furrowed his brow, "What's so special about him? What's this skinny kid got going for him?"
Du Ming almost laughed, it had been so many years since he last heard someone call him Xiao Shou Zi.
Jin Ling looked at Du Ming, asking him with her eyes what to do. Du Ming returned her a smile and walked straight to the manager's desk. The big man was startled and shouted, "Ah! That is our manager! You can't hit him!"
Du Ming hooked up the corner of his mouth and smiled, "Manager? Didn't you ask me what I'm capable of? Let me show you?"
Du Ming stretched out his hand and with a loud crack, he split the manager's desk in two.
The manager jumped up in fright and let out a loud cry. The things on the table clattered to the floor.
Du Ming looked at the manager and asked, "How's that? Is it enough? Or does this manager want to personally fight with me to confirm?"
The manager stammered and said, "No need, no need! You can come to our place to fight! It's our honor for you to be a boxer here! Come on!"
The manager called over a staff member and pointed at Du Ming, saying, "This guy, he's the new boxer, take him to the preparation room."
The staff nodded, and then the manager suddenly remembered and asked Du Ming, "By the way, what's your name?"
"My name is Du Ming."
The manager shook his head and said, "Tsk, this name doesn't have any impact. You," he pointed to the staff member, "wait a minute and give him a nickname that's more domineering."
The staff member nodded and led Du Ming and Jin Ling out of the office.
Du Ming said in a low voice to Jin Ling'er, "I've brought you in like this, now it's up to you to investigate. Can you go find your suspect among that group of people on your own?"
Jin Ling'er was stunned for a moment, realizing that she couldn't follow Du Ming anymore and needed to do something serious to investigate, but thinking of the chaotic scene outside made her feel a little intimidated.
Du Ming patted Jin Ling'er and said, "Forget it, you can't stand this place, that's normal. You go out first, I'll find a chance to investigate later."
"Gold Bell bit her teeth and shook her head hard. 'No, I won't leave. You prepare well, I'll go investigate myself, don't worry!'"
Du Ming raised an eyebrow, "Can you? Don't be arrogant."
Jin Ling'er glared with her eyes wide open, "What's called showing off, are you the only one who can? I can too!"
"Alright," Du Ming said, "then you be careful yourself."
Jin Ling nodded and continued, "You be careful too, I just saw them fighting... You're the one who helped us sneak in, don't get yourself into danger."
Du Ming smiled and said, "Alright, don't worry, you can go."
Jin Ling'er took another look at Du Ming, turned around and ran out of the corridor back to the venue, while Du Ming followed the staff member to the boxer's rest room.
The staff muttered, "The manager asked me to give you a nickname, what kind of nickname? I'm not a literary expert, how can I come up with so many cool nicknames? You're Du Ming, right? Give yourself a nickname! Here's your name tag, there will be a draw later and you'll go on stage, just take the tag and go on stage."
The staff member handed Du Ming a metal plate with the number twelve written on it, then opened the door to a large room and pushed him inside, saying "Nowadays anyone can be a boxer, I think next time I'll go to the gym to practice boxing too."
Du Ming heard his words and snorted coldly, didn't bother with him, that staff member walked out and slammed the door shut again.
The room wasn't small, with several long sofas arranged inside, on which sat the local underground boxers, all of whom had massive physiques, bulging muscles, and unfriendly faces that eyed each other warily, each occupying a large space.
Du Ming was pushed in by the staff, with his hands in his pockets, looking at them. A big man looked at him and asked, "Young man, what do you do?"
