Chapter 5: Awakening Psychic Power, First Lottery Draw

  【Bulbasaur level +1, gained 10 points!】

At the same time, inside the Pokémon Home, in Ryo’s room.

While contempting how to get storyline characters to come and adopt Pokémon, Ryo suddenly heard the system’s voice in his mind.

“Naruto is really something. He’s only been gone for less than an hour, and Bulbasaur has already leveled up. But system, isn’t the amount of points given a bit too low?”

This wasn’t just stingy—it was downright miserly. A level-up only gave 10 points?

And that was for a storyline character. If it weren’t a storyline character, would it only give 1 point?

“Host, the stronger the Pokémon, the more points will be earned from leveling up…”

After understanding the mechanics, Ryo quickly grasped the comparison between ninjas and Pokémon in this world.

  A rough equivalence was as follows:Academy Student = Level 1–10Genin = Level 11–30Chunin = Level 31–50Jonin = Level 51–70Quasi-Kage = Level 71–80Kage-Level = Level 81–90Super Kage = Level 91–100

For Pokémon, when at the Academy Student level, storyline characters earned 10 points per level-up. At the Genin level, it increased to 100 points per level-up. At the Chunin level, it jumped to 1,000 points, and from there, the points increased tenfold for each rank.

After digesting this information, Ryo let go of his compints and rubbed his hands together. “System, open the newbie gift pack.”

After all, he had yet to use the rewards he had received earlier.

“Opening the newbie gift pack…”“Obtained a Golden Exclusive Treasure Chest*1!”“Obtained 10,000 points!”“Obtained God-Tier Psychic Power Talent!”

Hearing these notifications, Ryo’s body trembled slightly.

“Psychic Power Talent? System, is this what I think it is?”

“Yes, Host. The Psychic Power Talent you obtained is the same as the one in anime.”

Upon hearing the system’s confirmation, Ryo’s face lit up with excitement. In the anime, psychic power was incredibly powerful—teleportation was just a basic ability. If used well, it could surpass chakra by a wide margin.

“With this, I finally have a means of self-defense.”

Even with the system, he had always been worried about his safety.

But now, with a God-Tier Psychic Power Talent, those concerns were gone.

Not only could he develop powerful combat abilities, but even if he couldn’t win a fight, his psychic power would allow him to escape swiftly. Teleportation in this world was practically an unbeatable technique.

“System, bind this talent to me immediately.”

“Understood, Host. The binding process may be painful. Please endure it.”

Before Ryo could ask any more questions, a wave of intense pain surged through his body.

  “Argh!”

The moment the pain struck, Ryo couldn’t help but cry out.

  His face turned pale.

He didn’t even know what to say—was this just a little pain? This felt worse than childbirth!

The pain came fast, but it also disappeared just as quickly.

“System, next time, could you at least warn me properly?”

After recovering, Ryo’s expression turned slightly resentful.

“No wonder it’s called a God-Tier Talent. I’ve only just awakened it, and I can already float using psychic power.”

Floating in midair, Ryo’s face was full of excitement. In anime, those with awakened psychic abilities had to train for a long time before they could float.

But he could already do it. And more than that—he could feel that his physical attributes had improved by an unmeasurable amount.

“Right now, even a Chunin wouldn’t be a match for me.”

After floating for a while, Ryo nded and stroked his chin in thought.

Without testing further, he turned his attention to the two treasure chests.

“System, what is the Exclusive Treasure Chest?”

He had never heard of it before, and the system hadn’t expined it previously.

“Exclusive Treasure Chests are unique to the Host and contain Host-specific Pokémon or special items.”“The chests are categorized into Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Diamond. Each time the Host assigns a Pokémon to a storyline character, a Bronze Chest is obtained.”“Three chests of the same level can be merged into one higher-level chest—for example, three Bronze Chests can be merged into one Silver Chest.”

After listening to the system’s expnation, Ryo nodded, feeling a surge of excitement.

Previously, when he saw the Kanto starter Pokémon, he had been so tempted.

He had seriously considered keeping them instead of assigning them out.

But in the end, for both his sake and the Pokémon’s, the Kanto starters had to be given away.

Now, with these Exclusive Treasure Chests, he could obtain a Pokémon that belonged only to him.

He could barely hold back his eagerness to open the chest and see what Pokémon he would get.

Still, he restrained himself and continued asking, “System, show me the shop.”

As soon as he thought of it, the scene before him changed—the once-empty wooden cabin transformed into a system shop.

The shop had various categories: Food, Items, Medical Supplies, and Berries.

Taking a gnce, Ryo opened the Food category.

“Isn’t this a bit too expensive?”

His eyelid twitched at the prices.

The food section was filled with different types of energy cubes, and a single bag of low-tier energy cubes cost 50 points.

Don’t be fooled by the 50 points—it only covers a single Pokémon’s food for one week.

And that’s just the lowest-grade energy cube. Mid-grade costs 100 points per bag, high-grade is 500, and top-grade is 1,000.

Ryo had just assigned a Pokémon to Naruto and earned 1,000 points, while Bulbasaur’s level-up only brought in 10 points.

Looking at it this way, the prices didn’t seem unreasonable. After all, once Bulbasaur reached higher levels, each level-up would yield far more points.

However, there was something crucial to consider—Ryo couldn’t just stock food for one Pokémon.

As his shop grew, more and more Pokémon would come in. The cost of energy cubes would become astronomical.

“Hmm? There are energy cube recipes?”

At that moment, Ryo noticed something unusual in the food section—recipes for making energy cubes.

He clicked on the [All-Attribute Low-Grade Energy Cube Recipe] and checked the price.

“What the—?! 500,000 points for the lowest-grade recipe?!”

And even if he bought it, he’d still need berries and an energy cube production machine. Without those, the recipe would be useless.

Shaking his head, Ryo moved on to check out the other categories.

The Items section contained Poké Balls, Pokédexes, and evolution stones.

But the prices for evolution stones were ridiculous—ordinary stones cost over a million points, while Mega Evolution stones were in the tens of millions.

For rare Pokémon evolutions, the prices soared even higher.

The Medical section featured potions and healing devices for Pokémon.

The Berries section was straightforward—various berries and berry trees were avaible.

After browsing through everything, Ryo let out a sigh.

At first, he thought having over 10,000 points was great. But after seeing the shop, he realized just how broke he actually was.

10,000 points? That wasn’t even enough to buy a decent Poké Ball.

Shaking off his frustration, he exited the shop and turned his attention to the lottery draw.

The draw system was fairly reasonable—1,000 points per attempt, and each draw guaranteed a Pokémon. However, the chances of getting a high base-stat Pokémon were very low.

“Wait… every draw gives a Pokémon? But what if I get weak Pokémon that no one wants? Won’t I have to take care of them all myself?”

  That realization hit Ryo hard.

Was this… a trap set by the system?

“Forget it, I won’t dwell on it for now. Once I have more Pokémon, I’ll probably be able to produce energy cubes myself.”

Taking a deep breath, he made his decision.

  “System, draw five times.”

Gritting his teeth, he issued the command.

Right now, he didn’t have enough Pokémon. He only had two.

If Charmander and Squirtle weren’t appealing to potential adopters—or if customers simply didn’t want them—then he’d be stuck.

Getting more Pokémon was a priority.

As soon as he finished speaking, a gacha machine appeared in his mind.

His points dropped by 5,000, and the machine began to spin rapidly.

A moment ter, five glowing orbs rolled out of the machine and transformed into Pokémon icons.

“Congratutions! You obtained: Pikachu, Rattata, Caterpie, Pidgey, and Happiny.”

As the system’s voice echoed, five Pokémon materialized before Ryo’s eyes.

  They gazed at him curiously.

A satisfied smile appeared on Ryo’s face.

“Pikachu, Rattata, Caterpie, Pidgey, Happiny—welcome! I’m Ryo.”

The Pokémon on the ground responded with cheerful cries, seemingly greeting him back.

Ryo was pleased with the outcome.

Based on what the system had previously mentioned, this draw was actually pretty lucky.
