Chapter 3: Interrogation
“Do you think this is a good idea?” Asked Daniel as he sat in the passenger seat of Lamar’s truck. They were on their way to meet up with Sean and Mycal at Mycal’s garage. It wasn’t going to be open for another few hours so it was the perfect place to get some answers from the royal who stowed away in the back of Lamar’s truck.
“I’m not sure,” he admitted “we are taking a big risk here and to be honest I don’t think it’s worth it.” Lamar was skeptical of the plan that they devised. This was a royal if anything went wrong they all could be in trouble.
“Why do you think he climbed into the back of your truck?”
“I don’t know, maybe he was going to try and finish what he started when it got dark, or maybe he was trying to get me to lead him somewhere...” Lamar got silent. He was overthinking and that wasn’t going to help the situation. Daniel knew him well enough to not push the subject, so they rode in silence the rest of the way there. It was only a 30 minute drive from Elle’s. Mycal was waiting for them as they pulled up he open the garage overhead door, Lamar drove inside and parked in the middle of the garage. Sean was standing by holding two matte black Glock 19s, loaded with silver bullets with an Australian Buloke tips, which Sean claims to be the hardest wood known to man. Most shooters carried a sniper or even a long bow for distance fighting. Not Sean though, he always liked close quarter combat.
Daniel and Lamar got out the truck, Lamar noticed that Mycal and Sean had their weapons out. Mycal was holding his great axe, Australian Buloke handle that was 32 inches with gold etching going around it, the double sided blade was titanium with silver edging. Daniel took out his twin daggers, handles made of obsidian with a pearl inlay wrapping around in a swirl pattern, with a silver Bichuwa style blade 12 inches in length. Daniel’s and Mycal’s weapons were forged by Lamar and all three were enchanted by him, so he knew exactly what they could do and he knew exactly what these three could do with them.
“Um, what are you guys doing?” Lamar asked with concern in his voice.
“Just a precaution.” Mycal answered.
He knew it was no sense in arguing and for the most part he also knew that it was for the best. They didn’t know what to except and it’s better to be safe then dead.
Mycal took the blade of his axe and banged it on the side of Lamar’s truck. “Alright come on out of there.”
“Dude the hell you doing! Watch the paint!” Lamar exclaimed.
“My bad.” Mycal said holding up a hand as if he was surrendering.
The truck cover slowly peeled back until half the royal could be seen, he sat up and looked around he saw the four of them standing around the truck.
“You know I was trying to sleep, it’s rude for you to wake the dead.” He chuckled.
“Cute.” Sean replied, “how about you come from back there.” He motioned with his gun for the royal to get out the back of the truck, which he did without any argument. “You’re good right there.” Sean said as the royal hopped down.
“So what is this, some kind of scare tactic? I mean you do know who you’re dealing with right. I’m a ro…”
“Silence.” Lamar commanded and put a hand over his mouth, the royal was unable to speak. It was a simple spell, as long as he kept his mouth covered the royal would be unable to talk. The royal tried to speak but no words would come out.

The royal tried and tried but no sound would escape his lips. He became annoyed at this not being able talk even for a brief moment was not fun for him. Lamar nodded to Mycal giving him the okay to ask the questions he wanted to ask.
“We are going to ask you a few questions, we will allow you to talk to answer them. Nod your head if you agree.” Instead of nodding his head the royal gave Mycal the middle finger which made Sean laughed.
“Funny, but we got all day and nowhere to be,” Mycal said.
Lamar uncovered his mouth “speak for yourself, I need to get some sleep. I don’t have all day to be playing around with this uppity asshat.”
“That was rude.” The royal said.
“Jackass you tried to kill me remember, I think you’ll be okay getting called an uppity asshat.”
“Yeah I don’t know why I tried to kill you if I’m being perfectly honest.” The royal said.
“What do you mean?” Daniel asked.
“I mean what I just said, I don’t know why I tried to kill him. The last thing I remember is pouring myself a warm glass of virgin O negative and then the next thing I know I’m in some trees ready to rip his throat out.” Mycal and Daniel tightened their grip on their weapons, which the royal took notice.
“Whoa,” the royal threw his hands in the air. “Calm down, I don’t feel that way anymore.” That wasn’t reassuring enough for them, they weren’t loosening their grips.
“What could make a royal do something like that?” Sean asked looking at Lamar.
“A powerful enough mage could. I mean pure bloods aren’t immune from magic, it’s just certain magic is harder to work on them.” Lower vampires, the unpure they are called are vampires that were sired by a vampire of pure blood. They are usually used as body guards for the royals. Or sometimes a pure blood might go too far and drain too much of their victim. So they were turn the person to keep from there being a body. The unpure even sire their own as well. It is illegal in the vampire community to do so, it continues a tainted line they say. Lamar thinks is because they are afraid that they pure bloods will get over run by the unpure. Pure bloods are the strongest with the royals being on top of that list. They are born from vampires that are hundreds of years old. Then the non-royal pure bloods, then the unpure. The stronger the pure blood, the stronger the sire.
“You just did.” The royal said.
“I just did what?” Lamar replied.
“Just used magic on me, when you kept me from talking.” Lamar slipped up by using the spell he tried to hide the fact that he fell under the arcane mage category. But even arcane mages couldn’t do a spell like that without a longer incantation. Mycal, Sean, Daniel, and even Elle knew about Lamar’s uber mage status. It could be dangerous if anyone else found out. He would have to be more careful going forward.
“His right, you did.” Sean said.
“So what you think I made him try to kill me.”
“No, but if you were going to do it how would you do it.” Mycal said. Lamar got quiet and took some time to think, it was a good question. How would he do it if it was him, it had to be away that was practically undetectable and no one would give it a second thought?
“The blood,” he said after a few moments. “Its easy access, I’m sure it’s not under lock and key,” he said as he moved closer to the royal. “You test the blood for diseases I’m sure, but I doubt for spell work.”
“How would someone mess with the blood?” Daniel asked.
“There are a few ways, it could have been a charm, but that means there would have to be something making physical contact for that to work. Or a spell, and if that’s the case we can trace it back to the caster, all spells leave an essence, like a finger print. Or a potion, which we can test the blood for, and is the most likely way it happened. There is another problem, how did it get to you specifically. Was there anything different about the way the blood came?”
“No the same way every time, my shipment didn’t look any different.”
“Maybe it’s not the blood then.” Sean said
“Wait, you get your own personal shipment of blood?” Lamar asked.
“Yeah most royals do, why?”
“Then it has to be the blood, think about it, all someone would have to do is to get to the blood before it gets to you. Do you have any more of it left?”
“Yeah a few bags.” The royal replied.
“So we just going to skate pass the fact that Lamar asked how it got to him specifically and he then decided to tell us he gets his own shipment I guess.” Mycal said putting his axe back into the trunk of his black out SUV. Everyone ignored him as they made a plan on getting the blood and testing it. They were going to have to wait until night fall. There were no way they were going to be able to roll up to the Vampire compound unannounced, especially with a vampire in the trunk. So they decided to meet at Elle's at midnight and the royal would bring them the blood.
