Chapter 3 Victor Grayson

“Chrissy, are you alright?” Sasha asked, as I just stood there in the middle of the school’s hall. My heart was beating faster, my throat was dry, I’m pretty sure my eyes were glowing red as my vision was painted red and I could see everyone’s heat signature, I could see there hearts and their veins filled with blood pumping all of their body, infact, I could hear it pumping. And worse of all, I could feel my fangs extending from my lips.

“Y-yeah, I’m fine, I j-just, really need to use the bathroom.” I said and made my swift exit.

“Maybe, she really needs to go number two.” I heard Jayce say, and normally I would turn back to smack him in the back of his dumb head, but I didn’t have the time and I trusted Sasha to do it for.

“Ow.” Jayce cried as he rubbed the back of his head.

I rushed to the girls bathroom to calm myself down, as boring as the town is, I’d rather not cause a scene on the first day of school. This doesn’t usually happen, I don’t crave human blood like the rest of my family due to being a halfling. The only reason I drink it is because of my family’s insistence, they hope that they could stimulate some of my more vampiric urges, giving me access to my vampiric abilities. Maybe it was finally working, or I it’s because my eighteenth birthday just recently past. Because, nothing like this has ever happened before.

‘Crap, crap, crap, why is this happening now of all times? Why am I feeling the hunger right now?’ I thought as I looked at myself in the mirror, seeing my inhuman features in the mirror. My eyes were glowing bright red, my ears were a little pointy, my fangs were extended and I looked a little paler than before, not inhumanly pale, but definitely paler. I knew what was happening to me, since I’ve heard about it since I was young. It’s called the hunger, it’s a state that happens to humans for the first time when they are turned or when vampires go on hunts for the first time, or the most extreme version, when they go without blood for too long. But that last one usually makes you go berserk. And I hope it doesn’t come to that

I turned around quickly as I heard the door to the girls bathroom open.

‘Oh no.’ I thought as I saw the person who entered the bathroom.

“If it isn’t my friend Chrissy Annastassia Pierce? A pleasure to see you this morning, even if you look a little terrible, well, more so than usual. Do you need some make up?” Bethany Forbes asked. She is the queen bee of the school, a rich kid and the daughter of the mayor of Mystique Falls, Benjamin Forbes. She stunningly beautiful, not as beautiful as my aunt, and had the ego one would expect from someone like her, again, not as egotistical as my aunt. She also had a large clique of girls and guys that follows her around like a lost puppy. The reason being, she travels a lot during the holidays. For a town like this, filled with people that have limited options, getting close to someone rich was a good idea.

“Not now Bethany.” I practically growled out, but she didn’t seem to notice, of course she didn’t.

“Wow Chrissy, you sound really angry right now, I guess you had a boring summer as usual. My summer was amazing, Hawaii is great this time of year.” Bethany said as she applied her lip gloss.

“Oh Chrissy, just because your summer was great and yours was shitty as usual. You don’t-”

“SHUT UP.” I roared while looking into her eyes and she suddenly went still, like a puppet and her eyes were dazed and lifeless.

“Well shit, I’ve been wanting to do that for years. Leave now and don’t come back in until I leave.” I said and she immediately left. I quickly opened my bag and took out a metal water bottle filled with blood packed by my father just incase I get peckish. And for the first time, I actually need it. I quickly downed all the blood, every last drop.

“Mhm, that helped. But I need to find that scent quickly and figure out what is going on?” I said as I wiped a drop of blood off my lips. The effects were mostly gone, I could still feel the hunger but it was suppressed, for now, my throat still felt dry and my eyes were still glowing a bit. Luckily, the humans won’t notice because of the veil.

  *Ring, ring, ring*

“Damnit, why did it have to be now of all times?” I groaned as the school bell rang. I quickly left the bathroom and rejoined Sasha and Jayce before heading to our class. We were in the same class like always, and our teacher, Mr. Anderson gave us a little speech since it was the first day. I’m not really sure what we did for the rest of the day as the only thing on my mind was that delicious scent. The scent was getting stronger, and I’m sure the source was on this floor, in one of the classrooms. I’m gonna eat whoever that person is.

‘Wait what?!’ I exclaimed internally as that thought popped into my mind.

  “Christina!!!” Sasha shouted

“What?” I jumped as Sasha shouted my name

“What’s up with you, I said your name like five times? You have been absent minded all day.” Sasha said

“Oh sorry, I must still be tired from the holidays.” I said, but that explanation only made Sasha more suspicious.

“Maybe you’re just hungry, a low battery can make anyone tired. Luckily, it’s lunch time.” Jayce said

“Alright, let’s head to the cafeteria.” I agreed

‘Maybe I’ll see my prey-I mean the source of this smell in the cafeteria.’ I thought, trying to get these predatory thoughts out of my head. We made it to the cafeteria, and I kept an eye out for any change in the direction the scent was coming from, but it seems they were actually in the cafeteria. We entered the cafeteria and went over to our usual spot, a small table in the corner. It’s not that we were unpopular, everyone knew everyone here, we just collectively decided that it was a good spot. Nice potted plants on the window sill, beautiful sunlight pouring through and a nice view of the outside scenery as we eat.

“Oh, it looks like Bethany little cult has gotten a new member. Isn’t that the new kid? He’s hot.” Sasha said, but I had already noticed. The guy in question was tall, taller than I was, he had silver hair with red dyed tips, purple eyes, he was muscular but not ripped and wore a white tee shirt, black cargo pants, a red sweater and white sneakers. And he was the source of that delicious scent. I couldn’t take my eyes off him, as my breathing became heavy and it felt like my throat was on fire. My fangs were extending out of my mouth and my eyes were glowing intensely.

“Chrissy, are you alright?” Jayce said with concern in his voice

“Yeah, I’m fine.” I said, trying not to snarl and stopped staring at the new guy, before looking back at the table.

“Alright then, I’ll go order lunch. What will you ladies have?” Jayce asked

“A salad, two slices of pizza and a soda, something ginger flavoured.” Sasha said

“I’ll have a burger and a mountain dew. Cold please.” I said with some difficulty

“Got it, I’ll be right back.” Jayce said and went to buy lunch

“Are you sure you are fine? If you feel sick, you should head to the nurse.” Sasha said

“Don’t worry, I’ll be fine.” I said and placed my head on the table, staring at the new kid while I did. He was chatting up a conversion with Bethany and her friends, he seems to be enjoying the conversation. As I watched him, my instincts were urging me to just pounce on him and drain him of his blood. But like my grandfather likes to say, we are more than our instinct.

“Here you go, two slices of pizza, a salad, a ginger beer, a burger and a mountain dew for the ladies. And for me, a smoothie and cheesebread. Your welcome ladies.” Jayce said as he sat down

“I’m still impressed that you can carry so many things at once without falling.” Sasha said

“It’s all in the muscles baby.” Jayce smiled while flexing his biceps

“So I see.” Sasha said before taking a bite of her pizza. I tore my eyes away from the new guy and decided to take a bite of my burger, who knows, it might take the edge off.

  *Gugh*

I almost spat back up the food as it tasted gross, making me wonder if I was actually eating a burger. Luckily, Jayce and Sasha didn’t notice as they had managed to work up a conversation and I managed to keep the food in my mouth. I drank some of my mountain dew, trying to wash everything down, it also tasted gross, but did managed to wash everything down. But I’m sure that face was twisted in disgust right now.

“Not a fan of cheese burgers.” I heard an unfamiliar voice say and I looked up to see the new kid standing in front of me.

“Hi, I’m Victor Grayson.” He said with a smile
