"Allying with humans? Does that... make any sense?" Ye Lan murmured softly.
Hearing her, Lian and Rin turned their heads toward her, their expressions filled with confusion. Ye Lan quickly shut her mouth, realizing she might have said too much.
Although the two didn’t seem to have any bad intentions, Ye Lan reminded herself to stick to her role as someone with amnesia. Asking too many questions could raise suspicions.
Just as she was scrambling for something to say to justify her comment, Lian began interpreting her words on her own.
"Ah, right. Beastkin and humans have always had a rather poor retionship. Even after all this time, it doesn’t seem to have improved, does it? Don’t worry, we’re only conducting a small exchange with the humans, nothing more. We won’t deepen our interactions with them too much. After all, humans don’t really have anything worth investigating" Lian said, smiling as she csped her hands together.
Hearing that, Ye Lan felt a mix of emotions. On one hand, she was relieved they hadn’t grown suspicious of her. On the other, she couldn’t help but feel a pang of regret over humanity’s situation, their status was so low that even forming a legitimate retionship with the elves seemed impossible.
Still, at least it wasn’t an invasion. That thought allowed her to breathe a sigh of relief.
"For now, rest here a bit. I heard the humans have a pce called the UN. We’re going to take a look around there, and once we finish the negotiations, we’ll take you home" Lian said gracefully.
With that, the two prepared to leave the room. Ye Lan, though somewhat anxious, raised her arm decisively to stop them.
"Wait! I want to go too!" she said, pressing her lips together shyly.
Both Lian and Rin turned toward her with puzzled expressions. From what they knew, beastkin usually harbored a deep disdain for humans, considering even looking at them a great offense. Had that sentiment diminished over time?
The curious gazes of the two focused on Ye Lan, who swallowed nervously, unsure how to respond.
"It's just that… I can't sit still" Ye Lan said weakly. "Besides, I've never seen humans. I'm curious about what they're like... Can I go?"
Seeing her in that state, something stirred in the hearts of Lian and Rin. While elves were renowned for their beauty, often surpassing even beastkin in appearance, they couldn’t deny the unique charm Ye Lan exuded with her cat ears. She was simply too adorable.
"Of course you can come! When we head out, just stay close to us, okay? And if you ever feel uncomfortable, don't hesitate to let us know!" Lian replied immediately with a reassuring smile.
Ye Lan beamed and, in a small victorious gesture, lightly pumped her fist. Finally, she would have the chance to visit the UN, a pce she hadn’t been able to see even during her time as a human. She decided to leave the challenges of the beastkin territory to her future self. For now, her philosophy was to enjoy the moment.
An hour ter, they called for her to leave. Stepping outside, she was greeted by a group of people who, like Lian and Rin, were extraordinarily beautiful. Was everyone here at such an absurdly high level of attractiveness? It was truly impressive!
As soon as Ye Lan appeared, the elves keen observational skills immediately picked up on her presence. However, they only cast her a brief gnce, their eyes filled with astonishment and curiosity.
After all, the retionship between beastkin and elves was amicable. The beastkin ranked sixth in the Ranking Order, while the elves held the seventh rank. Their reaction was something Ye Lan had already anticipated.
Looking around, she noticed the absence of any visible means of transportation. Were they pnning to run to their destination? While that wouldn’t be an issue for her, the elves, who specialized in magic rather than physical prowess, would likely struggle with such a method... or so she thought.
Before she could voice her question, a floating carpet materialized beside her.
"Please, step on, honorable priestess"
"Just call me Ye Lan" she replied with a casual wave of her hand. The title of priestess still felt strange to her. Carefully, she leaned on the edges of the carpet and sat down.
The carpet was astonishingly stable, and its speed was far faster than she had expected.
Ye Lan turned her head to observe her surroundings, but what she saw made her purse her lips in a mix of disbelief and resignation. While she traveled on the carpet, the other elves were effortlessly flying through the air, defying the very ws of physics.
Upon closer inspection, she noticed that each elf had a pair of transparent wings on their backs, surrounded by small gusts of wind that kept them aloft.
"So, this is magic? I want to try it too!" she murmured softly. As she spoke, she began to gather magic in her hands, forming a small ball of water.
Paf!
With a slight movement of Ye Lan’s hand, the water ball exploded in the air. Beastkin, with an initial magic of just one point, would literally need an eternity to cast spells of this caliber.
Ye Lan pursed her lips and decided to stop worrying about it. If something is meant for you, it will come eventually. If it’s not, no matter how hard you try, it will never be yours. she thought with resignation.
In just a few minutes of reflection, they had already traveled hundreds of kilometers, passing through several human cities and nearing the territory known as the UN.
"Miss, are you hungry? We have emergency provisions. Would you like something?" asked an elven guard respectfully as he floated to her side.
"No, thank you. I just ate. I’m not hungry yet" Ye Lan replied calmly, waving her hand. Barely an hour had passed since her st me al, there was no way she could be hungry so soon.
The elven guard nodded and turned his gaze forward to continue the journey, but suddenly his body tensed. In a swift motion, he positioned himself in front of Ye Lan with evident urgency.
"Watch out! Enemy attack!"
Immediately, all the elves increased their altitude, rising higher into the air, as dark silhouettes began to emerge around them.
Frowning, Ye Lan directed her gaze toward the shadows, which were slowly taking form. Massive spectral wolves, terrifying in size, appeared before them.
[Special Species: Spectral Wolves. Level: 30. They move in packs. Their fangs contain a deadly venom that can only be treated with advanced purification magic.]
Special species? … Is it simir to demonic species? They must be one of those unintelligent types outside the ranking, Ye Lan thought as she carefully observed the spectral wolves.
Just as she prepared to leap off the flying carpet to confront them, an elven guard at her side stopped her.
"Lady Ye Lan, there’s no need for you to intervene. We’ll handle this. A few simple level-30 magical wolves are no match for us el ves" the guard decred confidently.
In the sky, the elves raised their hands in unison. In each palm, streams of powerful magical energy gathered rapidly, forming radiant magic circles that shone brilliantly.
[Light Magic: Light Arrows]
Shhhhhh!
Countless luminous arrows rained down from above, piercing the magical wolves below. The creatures had no time to react and were utterly annihited without resistance.
Witnessing this overwhelming dispy of power, Ye Lan inhaled sharply.
"Pffff! This… this… this is… incredible…"
Awkwardly, she turned toward Rin, who appeared completely unfazed by the spectacle.
"This spell… it must consume a lot of magic, right?" Unable to hold back her curiosity. Ye Lan asked.
Rin gave her a confused look before shrugging indifferently. "Eh? Not really. It’s just [Feathers of Light] a basic low-level spell. It sts five seconds and uses about 200 magic points. It’s more of a practice spell…"
Two hundred magic points…?
Ye Lan instinctively brought her hands to her face, feeling an overwhelming sense of helplessness.
Two hundred magic points are ‘not much’? Then… with my total of ten magic points at level 10… what does that make my Water Ball, which costs one point? A party trick?
