Hearing 'Level 69', the leaders were truly stunned. During their meeting at the UN, they had made a preliminary estimate of the number of elite fighters in each country. Across all nations combined, there were barely fewer than a hundred individuals at Level 40, and not a single person had reached Level 50. Yet the elves casually brought someone at Level 69?
Moreover, Ye Lan understood that elven levels couldn’t be compared to human levels. For beastkin like herself, despite being only Level 6, she had been able to suppress someone at Level 30. Even if elves were slightly weaker in comparison, an elf at Level 69 could easily overwhelm a human at Level 100 or higher.
Wait, could levels even surpass 100? She made a mental note to investigate this ter, as there were still far too many things she didn’t understand.
Hold on... something didn’t add up. Did Lian just say she was 102 years old? What the hell?!
Ye Lan shuddered, gncing at Lian again. You’re 102 years old and look like that? Are you some kind of Grand Elder of Tianshan or what?!
Noticing the astonishment written across the humans’ faces, Lian tilted her head slightly, confused.Rin, standing beside her, licked her lips and quickly stepped closer to whisper in her ear
"It seems the average human lifespan is only 100 years. Even with the increases provided by levels, they only live up to 500 years at most" Rin murmured softly.
Suddenly, realization dawned on Lian. She csped her hands together and offered an apologetic smile.
"My apologies, my apologies. I nearly forgot that you are humans. In our race, the average lifespan is 1,000 years, and with level increases, it can extend to 2,000 or even 3,000 years. So, even though I am 102 years old, I am still considered a child among my people"
Although Lian’s expnation seemed simple, for the leaders, it was another devastating blow. A life expectancy of 1,000 years? Wasn’t that utterly exaggerated?
Before the major changes in the world, every country had invested heavily in researching methods to prevent aging. Yet, in the end, all efforts had failed. They had come to believe it was impossible to break the limits of human longevity, and now, an elven race appeared with an average lifespan of 1,000 years.
The Chinese leader was the first to recover from the shock. Smiling, he stepped forward and, with a respectful gesture, addressed the elves."Distinguished members of the elven race, why don’t we continue this discussion about the alliance inside?"
The elves smiled in return, clearly pleased by the middle-aged man’s demeanor, and nodded their agreement.
One by one, the elves entered the UN building. The staff members, who had been bustling about hurriedly, stepped aside to make way for them. The elves, for their part, gazed around with interest, observing the human creations born of technology.
"What humans have built is quite impressive. If it were fully utilized, it could likely rival the full-power attack of a high-ranking angel" Lian remarked casually, her tone tinged with astonishment.
The leaders of the nations immediately froze. A nuclear bomb, only equivalent to the full-force attack of one of these so-called angels? A single individual could wield that kind of power? The thought was terrifying.
"Altough, it’s a pity" Lian continued calmly. "No matter how powerful it is, without using magic to deploy a barrier, it’s far too easy for other spells to interfere with it, just as I demonstrated earlier" As she spoke, she gestured toward the earlier dispy of her magic, further emphasizing the vulnerability of humanity’s ultimate weapons.
Having entered the UN meeting room, what followed was a tedious session of discussions. Ye Lan had already heard the details of these deliberations from Lian beforehand, so she wasn’t the least bit interested.
Discreetly, she gnced around and slipped out of the room. Naturally, she took precautions before doing so, wrapping the flying carpet around her body to create a cloak-like effect that concealed her features.
With this, no one should be able to see my animal ears, right? Without the ears or tail, my appearance doesn’t lose to that of a human. She thought, mentally giving herself a perfect score for her disguise as she wandered off to explore the UN building.
Before, she could only see pces like this in anime or on TV shows. Now, she had the chance to experience it in person. There was no way she was going to let the opportunity slip by!
Meanwhile, the meeting continued with intensity, with the elves clearly taking the lead in the discussions.
"We will provide you with certain magical training resources and construct a powerful defensive barrier to protect your entire human region. With this barrier, no minor enemy will be able to pose a threat to you. In exchange, you must hand over the blueprints for all your technological advancements and 10% of the mineral resources extracted from your mines. What do you think? It’s a rather fair deal, don’t you agree?"
Lian, arms crossed, calmly id out her demands. However, the leaders in attendance struggled to maintain their composure.
10% of their mineral resources and all the blueprints for their technological advancements? Even the structure of nuclear weapons? This was an overwhelmingly one-sided demand!
"It can't be..."
Just as the President of the United States was about to reject the proposal, Rin, standing beside Lian, suddenly spoke.
"I suggest you think carefully before responding. While your technology is indeed powerful, without a magical barrier in pce, your weapons wouldn’t even activate against slightly stronger races. Moreover, the range of those weapons is quite limited, isn’t it? Even your most advanced systems can only cover half of human territory, at best. Essentially, they are tools of passive defense, completely incapable of being used offensively.Without our barrier, even low-ranking races like dwarves or goblins could unch catastrophic-level attacks against you. However, with our help, humans could develop and, in the future, surpass those races. So please, think it through carefully"
Rin’s words left the President of the United States with his rebuttal stuck in his throat.
She wasn’t wrong. If Earth had truly become the designated human territory, and if other races existed beyond its borders, even nuclear weapons would ck the range to reach those distant threats. Their utility would be limited to purely defensive measures.
The elves, a race ranked seventh in the Ranking. If their promises held true, what initially seemed like a loss of humanity’s technological advantage could, in reality, turn into a significant gain.
The other leaders fell into thoughtful silence, weighing the proposal. Finally, the leader of Long Guo took a deep breath and rose from his seat.
"I have no objections"
The other leaders turned to him in surprise. Shortly after, they, too, stood up one by one, signaling their agreement.
Lian smiled, extended her hand, and said, "I’m gd you’ve made the right decision, humans. May our cooperation be fruitful"
With the agreement reached, it was time to seal the pact. However, instead of relying on written documents, the elves performed contracts directly at the soul level through magic.
Just as Lian was about to extend her hand to cast the spell, she realized Ye Lan was missing.
"Where is the priestess? This is a problem. Find the priestess immediately, we must ensure her safety!" Lian commanded the elven guards, her expression turning serious.
Lowering her hand, she halted the contract process, deeming it inappropriate to proceed under the circumstances.
"Excuse me, but who exactly is this priestess?" one of the leaders asked cautiously, fully aware that any incident occurring in their territory would be their responsibility.
Lian fixed them with a sharp gaze and, with a grave expression, replied, "The priestess is the most important figure among the beastkin, second only to their king. If anything happens to her, we elves will simply be left to collect your corpses. The beastkin are fiercely protective of their own."
