61 - Information and Ambition

Sonny Zendt didn't discuss the price of information with Jason Williams right away. Instead, he told Jason the information first, leaving the pricing up to Jason. Whatever benefits Jason offered were entirely voluntary. If Jason gave him nothing, Sonny wouldn't say a word. That was the understanding of a smart man. For Sonny, anything Jason gave him was a profit. After all, calculating this information only cost him mental energy, not anything concrete. If the information stayed buried in his gut, he'd get nothing. Sonny's earlier request for combat boots was a bit of a stretch, a little too ambitious. His ideal price would be a few dozen Escape Coins from Jason.

But Jason didn't underestimate Sonny because of it, nor would he refuse to pay after hearing the information. Jason knew that as Sonny's transportation improved, his fortune-telling abilities would become even more terrifying. With the right price, Sonny could calculate any information you wanted. Sonny had made a good impression on Jason, who naturally wanted to befriend this information dealer.

"You want combat boots?" Jason asked.

Sonny quickly nodded, then awkwardly rubbed his nose. "If you don't have spare combat boots, something else will do... like a few Escape Coins."

Sonny was giving Jason an out. If Jason didn't want to give him combat boots, he could say he didn't have any to spare and just offer some Escape Coins to get rid of him. But then, Jason casually synthesized three pairs of adult men's combat boots and handed them all to Sonny.

"One pair of combat boots is payment for the information. The other two are a gift from me. You can come to me if you have good information in the future," Jason said. "Also, you can't sell information about me to anyone. You should know the consequences of offending me."

With that, Jason patted Sonny on the shoulder and headed toward the park gathering point. Sonny stood there, stunned, holding the three pairs of combat boots. Jason had generously given him three pairs, enough for him and his two fellow apprentices. Sonny snapped out of his daze, feeling overjoyed and a little confused. Where did Jason get these three pairs of combat boots? Spatial equipment?

Sonny subconsciously started calculating, and in an instant, his mental energy plummeted. His expression froze. Jason's ability was collecting blueprints?! With that ability, he'd never lack resources. Then Sonny became even more puzzled. Jason was so strong; his ability should be combat-related. How could it be the ability to collect blueprints? Did he have other abilities?

Driven by curiosity, Sonny started calculating again, but this time, his mental energy didn't react at all. He clearly couldn't figure anything out.

  ...

Meanwhile, at the small park, after helping Jason lure away the horde, everyone gradually returned and gathered there.

"I don't think those advanced zombies are that powerful. Jason killed them too easily. Should we go kill a few advanced zombies ourselves?" Outside the park, over twenty people gathered, discussing the possibility of teaming up to kill advanced zombies.

Someone frowned. "Could it be that Jason is just too strong, and the advanced zombies aren't that weak?"

A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

"Jason is strong, but I'm not bad either," a burly man said, patting his chest. He carried a large axe and said confidently, "I won't lie to you all. My ability is Berserk. I can enhance all my attributes to E+ Rank within ten minutes. It would be easy to chop an advanced zombie to death."

Everyone looked at the burly man in surprise. They hadn't expected him to have such a powerful ability. Enhancing all attributes to E+ Rank did give him a chance to kill an advanced zombie.

Then another man exclaimed excitedly, "Brother, my ability is Aura Enhancement... When ordinary people are enhanced by my aura, all their attributes will also be enhanced to E+ Rank. If we team up, your attributes can definitely break through to D- Rank."

  Wow!

Everyone gasped again. It seemed that no team gathered here was simple. With Berserk and Aura Enhancement, killing an advanced zombie was almost guaranteed. These twenty-odd people, representing six teams, were now considering leaving Jason and killing advanced zombies themselves. After all, killing an advanced zombie would give their team an extra thousand points, potentially catapulting them into the top ten. It was much faster than spending the whole day killing hundreds of zombies. If they continued to help Jason lure hordes, their points would increase slowly, and their ranking would definitely drop.

Immediately, these six teams reached an agreement. They would tell Jason that they were leaving his team, to hunt for more crystals. They were going to kill advanced zombies.

  ...

On the other side of the park, David Lee and his group were trapped by a swarm of wasps, unable to move. Ellie and Kira, who had gone to help Jason lure away the zombies, hadn't returned yet.

"Now is our best chance to escape. We can't keep waiting," David said anxiously. He was more eager than anyone else to escape this place. He didn't want to die at Jason's hands.

The beautiful sisters frowned, knowing that David was right. But before Ellie left, she had left the swarm of wasps and five mutated wasps to watch them. How could they escape under the watchful eyes of the wasps?

David gritted his teeth and whispered to the four sisters, "We'll cover our heads with our coats and scatter. Then we'll meet back at our place." David had made up his mind to escape, even if it meant getting stung all over. It was better than dying at Jason's hands.

The beautiful sisters knew they couldn't delay any longer and nodded in agreement. "No problem. We'll run separately, but you have to go first." David had an E+ Rank physique and was covered in fat. The wasps couldn't really kill him. The only threat to David were the five mutated wasps.

David took off his coat, covered his head, and then, taking advantage of the beautiful sisters' inattention, snatched her fire axe and ran away without looking back. The swarm of wasps immediately went into chaos. Before Ellie left, she had ordered the wasps to prevent David and his group from escaping. Now that David had escaped, most of the wasps chased after him, including three mutated wasps.

  "Damn it! Ah... Ouch! Help!"

David's screams grew fainter and fainter. He was actually escaping, enduring the wasp stings. The beautiful sisters were overjoyed. Because David had lured away most of the wasps, they had fewer wasps chasing them when they scattered.

  "Now's the time! Run!"

The beautiful sisters covered their heads with their coats and ran away, screaming. A moment later, "David Lee, you bastard... You stole my fire axe!" The beautiful sister used her coat to ward off a mutated wasp, her face green with anger.

Then her sister arrived to support her. Because the sister was wearing combat boots, she quickly ran to her sister's side and chopped at the mutated wasp with her axe.

  Splat!

Although the mutated wasp looked scary, it was surprisingly fragile. The sister killed it with one axe. The beautiful sisters exchanged glances. They hadn't expected the mutated wasps to be so weak. The two sisters stopped running and immediately went to rescue Monty and Son. After some effort, the four of them killed the other mutated wasp. Then, enduring the stinging wasps around them, they chased after David.
