VII: LIE

Why must I relive these horrible thoughts?

  These horrid memories?

In all my cycles as a Galactic Decider, I have broken countless worlds.

I have spared several, but the breakings outweigh them a poultry three to one ratio.

I broke worlds because it was my duty.

  My duty… TO DESTROY.

The Kren, their purpose in this Galaxy, in this Known Universe, is to simply, and utterly, destroy.

‘Tis my purpose as well, it seems.

I have been told again, again, and AGAIN that every time I break a world and exterminate a whole entire species that I have saved millions of life-cycles.

BILLIONS… but I have also destroyed trillions.

  Is that what it takes?

To save billions of life-forms I must destroy trillions of lifeforms?

It does not make sense to me.

  Tis never has.

Before the Breaking of Crix, I thought nothing of this.

But after the breaking, after I decimated the Crixan race, after I decimated… Jaiya.

Sweet, innocent, and precious little Jaiya.

Whenever I ponder the thought of Crix, I always come back to her.

I do not understand why though.

We share no connection… NONE AT ALL.

We were two very different life-forms, but alas… something keeps me connected to her.

Something makes me feel like she is still here, in a sense.

  “I AM still here, Magnus.”

  _

“What?” Magnus said aloud after swearing that he just heard a voice, a little girl’s voice… speaking to him.

Looking around his Private Chamber, which he solely resided in, the World-Breaker tried to see if anyone was there, but there was no one… No one at all.

Holding Janx in his hands once more, a slightly stirred Magnus looked down upon him with his blue eyes whilst his long blond hair was kept pushed back behind his ears.

As Magnus stared into Janx’s small and mismatched black stitched eyes he became entranced by them, in a way.

Losing himself into the dark abyss, Magnus turned into a mindless being for a moment… Until the voice called out to him again.

“Why did you do it, Magnus?” the little girl’s voice called out to the World-Breaker in a whispery tone.

“Huh? What???” Magnus called out as he looked around his room once more.

Believing that something was definitely amiss, Magnus shot up from his beside and looked around his room more closely.

Keeping Janx clutched tightly in his right hand, Magnus continued to scan every square inch of his Private Chamber until his Chamber Door slid open again.

“Lero?” Magnus said in confusion after his Keeper barreled into his Private Chamber… COVERED IN VOLTAIRAN BLOOD.

Eyes widened, the World-Breaker stared at Lero in total shock as he relocked the Chamber Door behind himself.

If you come across this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.

“There we go. That should be grand… For now,” Lero said in a very nervous and erratic sounding tone as he turned around to face the visibly stunned Commanding-Leader of the Galactic Deciders.

“Luh-Lero?” Magnus said in confusion as he looked over his Keeper from head to toe and back again. “What happened to you?”

“I would love to tell you, Mags… I really would, but there is no time to explain.”

Hustling over to the World-Breaker, Lero took hold of the sides of his brawny arms with his scaly, Voltairan Knight blood-soaked fingerless gloved palms.

Looking Magnus directly in the eyes now, Lero said, “NOW BOY, you need to listen to every single word that I am about to tell you… EVERY. SINGLE. WORD. Do you understand me?”

Scrunching his brow in confusion, Magnus asked, “Lero, what is the disturbance with you… AND WHAT ARE YOU ‘COVERED’ IN??? Tis looks like…”

“BLOOD,” the little girl’s voice rang out in Magnus’s head, startling him again.

“MAGNUS, DO YOU UNDERSTAND ME?!” Lero shouted at the World-Breaker. “DO YOU?!”

“Yes, Lero! I understand you! What be the disturbance? What is wrong???”

“A lie, Magnus… EVERYTHING HAS BEEN A LIE.”

  “Lie??? Lero, what are you--”

“Everything, Boy! Look, there isn’t much time to explain it all, but here. Let me give you my personal Holo-Fier.”

Lero then pulled out his personal memory recorder from within his blood-stained long-jacket.

Handing his Holo-Fier over to Magnus, Lero continued, “Everything that you need to know is on it. All that you must do is simply watch it when you are safe.”

Taking the Holo-Fier from his Keeper, Magnus looked it over in confusion as Lero pressed, “Give me your word that you will watch it, Mags… GIVE ME YOUR WORD.”

Magnus didn’t respond. He merely kept on staring at the Holo-Fier whilst trying to make sense of all that was currently happening.

  CLUMP! CLUMP! CLUMP! CLUMP!

  CLUMP! CLUMP! CLUMP! CLUMP!

“What is that?” Magnus asked in confusion after hearing a heavy, and constant, clumping noise erupt from outside of his closed Chamber Door.

Ignoring the ‘clumping’ noise, Lero kept his eyes perched on the World-Breaker whilst shouting, “Your word, Magnus! Give me your thracking word, I say!”

Darting his eyes back down to his Keeper, Magnus did not know what to say.

With the ‘clumping’ noise growing louder, Lero glanced back at the Chamber Door and cursed, “Thrack.”

“Lero… WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?” Magnus asked in total seriousness as his Rannukan Keeper set his reptilian-like sets back upon him.

“Forgive me, Mags. I did not know what would come of this diabolical plan,” Lero pleaded whilst tears began to well-up in his eyes, confusing Magnus even more than he already initially was. “I wish that I could go back to change it all… BUT I CANNOT. Forgive me, my boy… FORGIVE ME!!!”

  KRAK-KAM!!!

“The Traitor!!! SEIZE HIM!!!” General Tyze shouted at Lero through his battle helmet’s voice modulator after he and his squadron of Knights busted through Magnus’s chamber door.

“Thrack you,” Lero roared as he came rushing at General Tyze and his squad.

ZAP! ZAP! ZAP! ZAP! ZAP! ZAP! ZAP! ZAP!

In the midst of his blitzkrieg, Lero was cut down by a barrage of Pulsar Energy Shot fired from the barrels of two Knights’ Auto-Rifles.

Shocked by this immensely, but keeping his emotional level at its baseline, Magnus just widened his eyes as he watched his Keeper, Mentor, and oldest friend fall face down on the floor of his Private Chamber… DEAD.

Whilst the World-Breaker stared in silence at Lero’s motionless corpse, which had smoke rising from it, General Tyze cried out, “Apprehend Decider Magnus! I repeat, apprehend Decider Magnus!!!”

“What,” Magnus said in confusion as two of General Tyze’s Knights approached him.

Grabbing a hold of both his arms, the Knights started to pull Magnus out of his Private Chamber and into the hallway that ran outside of it against his will.

Whilst the rest of the squad of Voltairan Knights stayed behind in the Private Chamber to tend to Lero’s body, General Tyze and his men escorted Magnus down the hallway to an unknown location.

“What is the meaning of this,” Magnus asked the Knights in confusion. “General Tyze, what is going on? Where are you taking me?”

“Silence,” General Tyze barked, causing the World-Breaker to scrunch his brow whilst still trying to keep his emotions held at bay. “You shall know soon enough. Until then, shut your gob and keep on moving!”

General Tyze then jabbed the barrel of his own Pulsar Auto-Rifle into the middle of Magnus’s muscly back, shoving him a few steps forward.

Feeling his emotions starting to rise at an exponential rate, Magnus did his very best to keep them steady… FOR NOW.
