Chapter 24: Work

Seeing everyone's behavior, Kenji felt goosebumps all over.

“Now, now, sit down and eat.” Maria semi-forced Kenji to sit at the table and placed a loaded plate of various goodies before him.

Under the watchful gaze of everyone, Kenji had no choice but to eat the food on his plate.

But deep down, Kenji kept feeling that something bad was about to happen to him. With each bite, this feeling intensified.

Before long, everyone finished their food, and Kenji braced himself for what was about to come next.

Despite his fears, Rex and Ryan simply got up and left.

“Now, I too have to go.” Soon, even Kevin got up and headed out to run some errands.

Now only Maria and Kenji were left behind.

‘It seems they want me to continue doing chores.’ Kenji somewhat figured out what they wanted.

At least that's what he thought.

“I will take care of them. You should rest. After all, you still have to go to work, right?” Just as Kenji was about to pick up the dishes and go wash them, Maria acted first and started gathering all the plates.

  “I…will…”

“Don't worry about it.” Maria gently smiled at Kenji and headed to the kitchen.

“Is this a dream?” Pinching his arm really hard, Kenji thought to himself.

However, aside from sharp pain, Kenji didn't feel anything. Nothing changed; he was still at the table instead of waking up in his bed.

With his head filled without countless questions, Kenji returned to his room and started breathing Ki.

  [Ki: 340]

After two hours of Ki breathing, Kenji headed toward the city gate.

By the time Kenji arrived at the gathering place of Moonblade part, they were already preparing to leave.

“Sorry kid, no extra hand needed.” The unfamiliar girl from Moonblade part, leading the group of workers said to Kenji and then continued heading out of the city.

A little disappointed, Kenji looked around the notice area for half an hour before finding a job.

After three hours, Kenji was done with the job and got 70 copper coins.

“Recruiting members for hunting! Anyone with an E-rank Gift is welcomed!”

“Looking for members! Even those with F-rank Gift can join!”

While looking around for another transporting job, Kenji kept seeing amateur hunters recruiting for teammates.

It seems recently more and more transportation workers have been switching to becoming Hunters.

A few minutes later, Kenji found another job.

“Here, you go.” Taking 80 Copper coins from his recent employer, Kenji headed back.

Returning to his room, he wolfed down the remaining breadsticks, breathed Ki for a few hours and then headed to sleep.

The next day, Kenji got the same treatment. Maria came to wake him up for breakfast and no one asked him for anything in return.

Then as usual, after some Ki breathing he headed toward the city gate.

“Boy you are early.” Kenji was greeted by one of the workers of the Moonblade party, as he entered their flock.

  “I..was late…yesterday. Didn't want…it to happen…again.”

Yesterday, he earned 50 copper coins less because he wasn't able to find any well established party.

The only big parties that Kenji had the opportunity of working for were the Silver party, Ember party, Firefly party and the Moonblade party. Members of these parties have seen him work and weren't willing to drive him away due to his weak physique.

However, since the Silver party had Marconi and now Rex, Kenji was avoiding them.

Ember party and Firefly party had both obtained storage bags, so they no longer needed transportation workers.

Thus, the only remaining party that was willing to employ Kenji and paid the highest was the Moonblade party.

“Oh, good you are here. Those guys from yesterday, kept complaining the entire way.” One of the workers who admired Kenji's will was happy to see him.

For half an hour, Kenji made small talk and then the call stone hanging at the waist of Caroline rang and they headed out.

After three long hours of transportation, Kenji went looking for another job.

“That was exhausting.” After a day of hard work, Kenji returned to his room, exhausted.

Without a care for food, he went to sleep.

  knock knock

“Kenji, are you not coming for dinner?”

“I am…good.” Answering the door, sleep talking, Kenji continued his dream.

Hearing Kenji's exhausted voice Kevin left, letting him rest.

After waking up, Kenji ate with everyone, did some Ki breathing and headed out for work.

“Let's head out.” Today, Isla was on transportation duty, and she led everyone the moment she received the call.

“Finally, I thought I was going to miss my second gig.”

“Same here, man. We were waiting for more than an hour.”

Finally getting the news, the restless workers were overjoyed. They had been waiting for a whole hour; some were even thinking of ditching their second job.

This was the problem with top hunting parties. Sometimes they were done early, while other times they stayed out until late in the evening.

Same as before, the Moonblade party had hunted a group of Stormsteeds.

“Aren't you guys coming?” Isla looked at her teammates, who showed no sign of moving.

“No. There is another herd of Stormsteeds on the other side of that hill. We are going after them, so you’ll have to make another trip,” Kirra replied.

“Okay, be safe.” After wishing her teammates well, Isla led the workers back toward the city.

“Looks like we have to make another trip.”

  “Extra money for me.”

“You look a little down, Cass.”

“A few days ago, I begged my friend working at the forge to hook me up with the Fairy. Now I have a part-time job, but transporting monster carcasses in the morning and smelting ores in the evening is really getting to me.”

“No wonder you look a little tired these days.”

Along the way, the workers kept whispering among themselves, knowing that the rest of their goddesses weren’t coming along.

  “We are…ahhh!!!”

The sudden scream of their fellow worker put everyone on high alert.
