(14)Prologue 0.3.5 – The Rather Out of Place Puzzle. (Part – 4)

I don’t know what’s going through its mind, but I did look back right before that thing hit the bridge. It’s looking at me with its massive eye. That eye is captivating and I’m lost in it for less than a second. There's so much emotion in it and yet, I’m unable to tell anything that they are trying to say. But why do I feel like this? That golden eye with a star shaped pipul, one that is white, but one that shines as much as the sun, and so does the golden colour of the rest of the eye. It deeply stares at me as the tip of its mouth or face? Whatever, as it hits the bridge and as anyone could expect, it easily goes through it. But while it’s doing so, it just keeps on staring at me as if it’s trying to say something.

What is it? What do you want?

Two questions that I will never get an answer for them, at least that’s how I think. Everything about this is bizarre, this place, the monsters here, everything and anything.

Bam! Bridge collapsing noises! Breaking noises!

The first impact is as violent as you can guess. The entire bridge shook with the impact and of course it soon started to crumble, after all, it has lost around 30% of its length, so it's normal that more of it will fall down towards the abyss. Now the biggest problem is me, I’m at around 50 meters from the door, nothing to unbelieve for me to run up to, however the door is closed and the bridge is collapsing at an incredible rate.

“I will have to blast that door open and just pray that whatever is there won’t attack me in sight.”

Ah, another excellent problem for yours truly. I didn’t mention but I’m sensing a monster past that door, one whose magic energy ranks close to S rank, far and I mean, far above the Royal Crystal Knight. Things really keep on getting better, now do they? Whatever, I will just blast that thing off and I will see it from there. I will try to raise as much smoke as I can, this way it will mask my presence somewhat and hopefully make things harder for whoever is there to target me.

“Cut my foes down with your strong gusts, ones that are as sharp as the blade of a sword! Wind Blade!”

  Foosh! Blast!

I bring my right hand close to my left shoulder and from there I prepare a Anemo spell, a green magic circle appears right between my shoulder and hand. Once I felt that the magic circle was ready and consequently the spell, then I actually threw the spell at the door, the Wind Blade as I said before. I did need to use a small incantation as I was preparing the spell, the reason for this was to increase the power of it by a bit, by reading what’s written on the magic circle, said incantation, in the vast majority of the cases, you can increase the efficiency of said magic spell, but only by so much as the biggest factor is and will always be the amount of magic that you use.

Moving on, the spell itself is for the simple side, just a strong gust of wind in the shape of a blade, a curved one at that, as both the beginning and the end of it, it curves to the inside. It has a strong green colour to it and as it travels through air, it has a characteristic sound to it, a “Foosh” sound. Less than a fraction of a second later, the Wind Blade hits the door, another colossal door in this case, cutting it in half. The spell at the same time explodes into several small Wind Blades, ones that go in all directions cutting down the colossal door into several pieces, leaving me quite the opening for me to enter, although I will have to jump to it as I won’t get there in time if I don’t do so. I’m just at around 20 meters from it, but the rest of the bridge in front of me is already snapped and just a second or so from collapsing. Fortunately for me, the Anemo spell did lift up a good smoke cloud so I want to believe that I will be able to “hide” from brief moments as I regain my balance and footing once I land from the jump.

I jump towards the entrance, covering said 20 meters and some more easily, however, I will have to recover from the landing as quickly as I can. For me to do that, the moment my feet touch the ground I bend my knees as much as I can, leaning forward at the same time. Once my knees are fully bent, I use the momentum to roll over, allowing me to disperse the rest of the energy of the impact, removing any possible injury that I could get from the landing itself. Not that I would get one in a situation like this but it’s always good to do things the proper way.

  Magic noises!

Even with the smoke covering myself, the beast in front of me, more than seems to not be bothered by it. While I can see it by using my Magical Eyes skill, a skill that allows me, the user, to physically see magic around him and since this beast is another Crystal monster you can guess that this thing is entirely made of magic, allowing me to easily see it through the smoke. While I could go on a tangent and describe what that thing looks like, it seems I won’t be able to do so as I’m mere moments from getting blasted with a-

A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.

  “Blast Cannon.”

  Pew! Blast! Whoosh!

The Crystal monster was aiming at the entrance, directly at the Hero. The speed of this Blast Cannon was close to the speed of sound, but with a mere 100 meters of distance the difference is minimal, in a sense that a normal human being will not distinguish between them. The explosion that happens post impact is also something that no normal human being could withstand. The Hero mentioned that the magic energy levels of this Crystal monster are close to S rank, however in reality, they are more so in the upper A rank, but it’s understandable the confusion and mistake. The ground crumbles, it shatters, it snaps with the first impact, it’s destroyed from the sheer force of the explosion. A shockwave follows the explosion, one that is strong enough to increase the damage dealt by the explosion and of course strong enough to be felt somewhat far from where it happened. The whole room shakes with the sheer violence of the explosion, almost equally to when the Whale sings. This alone should be enough to express just how strong the explosion was as it was close to matching the Whale song, however at the same time, it should display just how terrifying the Whale truly is.

Is this the end for him?

Of course not, why are you even asking?

It was a close call but I was able to dodge the Blast Cannon and even the explosion from it. I did have to use a little trick up my sleeve but, nonetheless I’m safe and sound. Well, in this case I didn’t dodge it, more so I blocked it, and as you can see, I had to summon my sword to do so. Then with a simple downswing I cut down in half the Blast Cannon itself, one that is a small line made of magic. In this case it was twice as long as my sword, as wide as the length of my whole arm and as tall as my upper body. This spell sure packed a punch, I would rank it at A rank, way up there even, but not S rank, I was wrong in that regard, way wrong. Either way, now that this is out of the way and the smoke cloud is cleared, I now can fully see the beast in front of me, and let me tell you, once again it’s something straight from a fantasy book. Nowhere near as terrifying as the Whale but still a horror to the sight.

It has the face of a turtle, but that’s the only thing that resembles said animal. Its body is made of the same Crystal materials as all the other ones, however there seems to be a few places where armour is present. One that is also made of Crystal material, but with a different colour to it and with a shine that easily grabs your attention to it. Its torso has an oval shape to it, one that is quite long, wide and even tall. Its length is close to 10 meters, however there is a tail that adds more overall length to him, making him close to 25 meters long. The width of the torso is nothing more than 5 meters wide while it's 2-3 meters tall, can’t tell you how much it is thanks to the way he has his neck stretched as far as it can go and slightly upwards. His head in general is for the small side, only being 1.5 meters long, a meter wide and another tall. I don’t think it has eyes on it but I sure as hell can say that it has massive fangs. Two of them to be precise, right at the front of the mouth, ones that are easily a meter long and 25 centimetres thick. In other words, the bite of that thing will definitely not hurt at all. It has only two arms or are they legs? I really can tell what they are, however they are as thick as you can imagine and with said armour all around them. Its feet are something akin to the feet of elephants, just a bit more circle-like. There are a few spikes at the back of it but that’s it really, the beast itself is smooth for the majority of its body, I think that’s why it has armour all around him, but that’s not here and there, I still have one job to do.

“Well then, I hope you’re ready for what’s about to come. Now that I have a sword in my hands, I will have to get just a bit serious.”

I mean all of this, even if I didn’t want to use a weapon for this battle, since I got an excellent invite for it, I have to have the courtesy to accept it of course. Yes, I’m not mad, annoyed or even pissed off from what this beast did to me. No, I will even name this thing, aren’t I, the Hero? Yeah? Wait, what? Whatever, I will name this beast, Crystal Fortress. An appropriate name I think, not only it's that much taller than I am, easily reaching 5 meters tall, the way it's shaped it gives out that impression.

Also, the sword I have in hand it’s not badly done or anything like that, however it’s not my trusty sword, one that can shatter hell itself if I wanted to. There’s no need for such a sword in this battle, that’s why I didn’t summon it. Either way, the sword that I have in hand is no other than a Paladin White Sword. A sword that was gifted to me by the Holy Church, a sword that was made by the church itself, so you can easily expect it to be high quality. It also looks exactly like something the church would make; the hilt is bathed in gold with a sapphire gem right in the middle of the pommel. Before the blade starts, in the guard area, there are two curves that extend out of that area. They first go upwards then they curve back down and once again curve upwards ending with a straight line to the sides. The grip area although bathed in gold, there are stripes into the hilt itself that allows the user to easily grip the hilt. The blade is normal looking but extremely sharp. In my hands I do think I could cut down a damn mountain with it, but what makes this sword truly a masterpiece is the Holy element infused on it or in other words, Light magic. This of course, makes this sword a Magical Sword and, in this case, it allows the user to use Light spells from it. But enough of my unnecessary yapping, let’s get this battle going!

  Magic noises!

The Crystal Fortress waits for nothing as it quickly prepares another Blast Cannon. These types of spells are ones that require a bit of preparation and in some cases a lot of it, not only that, there is something called “recoil” after using such spells. Recoil in these cases is basically the consequence of using a big or massive spell, where it makes the user unable to use magic for a few seconds, minutes, hours and even days. For the Crystal Fortress it was no more than 30 seconds, that’s how much time I have between each one of those spells. Yeesh, not much time at all. Not really, it won’t change the outcome of this at all.
