File#26: The mother, the father and the s̶o̶n̶ daughter (I)

As Maria continued to drink beers, unregarding of how it would affect her health, Jessica was sitting next to her, observing the card.

"What the hell is a cosmopolitan?"

"Isn't that some pink alcoholic cocktail?"

"Verde is right, why are you asking?"

"Wait a damn second, why do you know that, Greenie?"

"You guys do know I have a name, right? Besides, I'd rather not get into why I have such an intensive alcohol knowledge."

  Maria raised her gss.

"You've been oogling at my drink for so long, Madonna, do you want to try?"

"I still don't like this name but I guess I wouldn't say no."

"Do you even know what a Madonna is?"

"Do I look like I care?"

  "I can tell you're single."

  "Excuse me, skank?!"

  "Shut up, you virgin."

For someone that old, she's arguing like a high school girl. These girls are constantly bickering.

Maria ughed, pointing her gss of pi?a coda at Jessica.

"Regardlesss, aren't you too young to drink? Not that I care."

  Responsible adult my ass.

"M-Miss Cortez, maybe you shouldn't encourage Miss Jessica to drink..."

"Rex, Aria, it's not like we're obligated to follow any ws right now. I mean, have you seen outside?"

"I-I guess you have a point..."

Maria handed her mixture to Jessica, the tter perplexed by what was in front of her eyes.

"You know, I wanted to thank you. If you didn't intervene, not only would I have not been here right now but Aria and Alma would have probably been gone too."

"Don't mention it. She doesn't wanna admit it but "Maria" took a liking to you guys. She was pratically begging me to help."

  That's hard to believe.

Me, Aria and Alma were quite confused seeing this conversation. I mean, the Jessica Juanary of all people trying to be considerate and praising someone else?! Something weird definitely happened in that weird dome.

"Why are you guys looking at me like that", both of them questionned us while turning their back to look at us.

Despite their differences, I guess there's some simirities in their behaviour.

As Jessica tried to take sip, the gss in her hands exploded, shard of gss and the liquid spilling all over her dress.

  "What the fuck?"

Between the moment when the gss broke and the liquid spilled, we all blinked, a tall woman wearing a bar apron now in front of our eyes. I wwas fairly certain there wasn't anyone here when we came. How did that gss shattering not even make a sound?

The woman face felt kinda familiar, I felt like I had seen her somewhere before.

"No, I don't think you'll drink that, young dy. Also, watch your nguage, haven't you seen the sign and the eyes of our Lord?"

She pointed to the wall behind her, which was filled with signs.

  "No smoking."

  I can understand that one.

  "No profanities."

  I suppose it's just a personal value.

  "Proper etiquette, please."

To be fair, if I held a bar, I wouldn't accept someone coming in with torn clothes or something like that. Except if their circumstances can't change it.

  "No drugs."

Makes sense but do you really need a sign for that?

  "No intercouse. You are watched."

Who the hell tried to do that in her bar?

  "No violence."

I suppose I can get behind that.

  "No demons."

Excuse me, what? Does that woman know they're actually a thing? Ignoring all those imps outside in the sky, I remember when the club had to fight a demon for the first time. Contrary to these little guys, that one was resilient. Fortunately, Melissi white colomb incatantion line saved our ass. Even though she act like she does, she's pretty sstrong when pitted against those guys.

  Melissi, huh?

"I bet Melissi would have loved that sign."

Maria's face turned pale, the mere mention of the name seeming to scare her.

  "Did you just say Melissi?"

"Huh, yeah? She's one of my friends."

  "As in Melissi Meridi?"

  "...Yeah..."

If it happened way before, I would honestly be surprised that she knows her but those people seems to attract each other.

"Pink hair, hollier than you attitude and absurdly potent in exorcism?"

"That's weird, why do you know Miss Melissi, Miss Cortez?"

  "You haven't figured it out?"

"Calm down, Jessica, she isn't that aware of all that apostle stuff, contrary to us."

The owner of the bar put both of her elbows on the table, observing us discuss. That's weird, it's like I almost forget she was here.

"*Sigh* I wonder what Dad is thinking doing all of this? I mean, a battle royale with a bunch of humans gifting them divine abilities, is he bored again? Last time he was, he made a tsunami on Earth for no reason."

Wait a goddamn second, why is she so informed? Did she just say humans? Isn't she one? Well, I guess hybrids and witches do look like regur humans. Is she a witch? How strong is her father that he can make tsunamis just like that?

"What", we all shout in sync. For a simple barwoman, she knew way too much.

"Excuse me, Mesera but where did you hear that?"

"Weren't you talking about the Child of Rebirth, envoy of Shiva, Child of Fire? Or maybe I should say, envoy of Xiuhtecuhtli?"

The knowing smile on her face didn't inspire me anything good.

"Even I didn't know what was the ability of that girl nor the god she served, it makes no sense. Who you are, woman?!"

"A human with a one of kind talent, an ectopsm, two girls cursed by fate and a nephilim. I suppose in his grand pn, Father somewhat managed to make people unified."

She smiled as she said this.

"You keep reffering to this father of yours, what does that mean?!"

She pointed to the christian cross on the wall, it beared a strong bearance to the cross that shows up on apostles.

"Haven't you been listening? I said watch your nguage in the eyes of our Lord."

No, that can't be what she means when she says Father, right?

"Did that idiot even give you a proper education, Aubry?"

"How do you know my name?"

The others were looking at me in confusion, even though she knew a whole lot, I was the only one she seemed to know the name of and talk to with a sense of familiarity."

"I still remember when I held your little body in my arms. When I say the Lord, I mean my father God."

  "What the f-"

In an instant, before our eyes could even follow the movement and Maria was able to swear, she pinned the fire woman on the wooden wall with food tongs. She must have put a whole ot of strength into it for those to get stuck like they were nails.

"What did I say about profanities?"

  "Doesn't that mean you're..."

"Right on track, my name is Gabriel, I'm your mom."
